No there not the same. A Doctor of Medicine MD degree is trained and licensed to practice medicine and surgery in hospital settings,diagnose and treat and write prescriptions for pharmaceutical drugs,and allowed to use the diagnostic equipment in his office or hospitals.There are some MD's that practice both types,traditional and herbal medicine.The Naturopathic doctor would be allowed to practice herbal medicine,that is overseen by each States governing board.They usually compound their own medications,and try to keep their patients at home for treatment.Some have a very close relationship with their medical colleagues and hospitals in the area,to help out or consult with difficult cases..Take care SW RNP
