Yeast infections? Can boric acid cure them???!

Question:

Yeast infections? Can boric acid cure them???

I just read yesterday in an Altertnative medicine magazine that boric acid capsules in 600mg. inserted into vagina will cure vaginal issues, does anyone know if this is safe or true? The article said it CAN NOT be taken orally it's poisonous. I've heard of vinegar being used but never Boric acid, what exactly is Boric acid? It sounds scary.

Answers:

Not an expert, but - (a) I think I have heard of that; (b) it is toxic/poisonous if you swallow it, and (c) the other 'major use' I know of boric acid for (it's a powder) is as a poison for roaches (and probably other pests, not sure).

Soooooo .... I've never been tempted to try it.

That said, I just did a bit of research for us both. It's considered pretty safe for an insect poison but is toxic enough one must keep it from pets and children. It's used in topical medication, but don't swallow and don't get it in your eyes.

Below are some helpful links. The top one is about health applications for humans - including directions for the type of treatment you asked about! The second is a general info page on boric acid. The third is about using boric acid in a treatment for a yeast problem - for dogs' ears! Finally, I tacked one on about pesticides...

Hope this helps to make an informed treatment strategy! Be safe; be healthy.
