Does any know about the medications Zyprexia and Depakote ER?!

Question: Disregard browneye's referral to crazymeds.com: that is out of date: their ISP forgot to renew the domain, and someone else snapped it up: go to http://www.crazymeds.us where they have relocated to, and also check out www.drugs.com My standard post on bipolar disorder follows: See bipolar disorder, at ezy-build * (below) in section 10, and take the quiz, if unsure, and if the results are positive, ensure you get an expert diagnosis from a mental health professional, not doctors, who are much better dealing with physical ailments, and don't diagnose complex disorders like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and borderline personality disorder often enough to develop any real expertise. Bipolar disorder usually involves major moodswings, which occur without apparent cause, and often over many months, or a matter of years, rather than days, as with most people (unless rapid cycling). I'd take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements in the winter months. Try the Lithium Carbonate, or Lithium Citrate (regular tests are necessary, for these) , before trying the other medications, and see how that goes, over a few months, and always check out anything first at http://www.drugs.com/, so you will be aware of the risks, and on the lookout for side effects. If not considerably improved, after a few months, consult your primary mental health care provider, If bipolar type 1, an antipsychotic may also be needed. Everyone should take the Omega 3 supplements, for its other health benefits: see http://www.mercola.com/ TASKBAR. Some people refuse medication, using supplements, and a selective, mostly raw food diet (I do not recommended trying this, if bipolar 1, unless you aren't troubled by hallucinations, or delusional states). Maintain the treatments for the depressive phase, in section 2, at * http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris

Yes. Zyprexa is an anti-psychotic. Depakote is a mood stabilzer. Very useful drugs for those that need them.

Zyprexa is the brand name for Olanzapine, an antipsychotic. It's used for treating bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc. I'm relatively certain it's a schedule II drug, meaning it's quite potent and may be habit forming.

Depakote is the brand name for Divalproex Sodium (ER means its extended release). It's typically prescribed for people with epilepsy, to help with reducing the frequency and severity of seizures.

Not sure what else you'd like to know, do you have a more specific question?

They're both often used, and together, in people who have been diagnosed as bi-polar. I know that they have pretty serious side effects, but if you need them, and they work for you, they are a life-saver. A close friend is on them. I recommend you check out www.revolutionhealth.com for all kinds of info on drugs, or better yet for your specific drugs, go to www.crazymeds.com. Don't pay too much atention to the name, it's a great site.
