Can Someone Explain This Please?!

Question: I am in the process of switching from Paxil to Effexor on a progressive doctor supervised switch. After about a week of gradually stepping off of the Paxil, I am having shockwave sensations(that's all I know to call it) when I'm walking or moving. Any help? Anybody?

don't worry. this is very normal. It happens to me when I forget to take my Effexor everyday. Once you get enough of the medication in your system, the "mini-shocks" will go away within a couple hours-days. (I promise!) Good luck, and be careful!

Yeah, I got the zaps when weaning off Paxil. And it felt like I came down with a case of the flu.

I tried to wean myself off it but it was such a horrible experience that my doc finally decided to try to simultaneous start me on Lexapro while continuing to wean me off of Paxil. It was like magic. No more zaps or feeling like like I was constantly battling the flu.

Good luck.

Totally normal. Should subside in another week or so, if it doesn't definately ask your doctor. If it seems to be interfering with your everyday tasks, call you doctor now. This is probably why your doctor is trying to get you off the Paxil. You didn't say how long you were on it. If your really worried, call the drs office and leave a message. You could probably handle this over the phone.

This is a bad side effect of all those type anti-depressants. I was on Prozac, then Lexapro then Effexor. For years. I'd get off balance with those zaps and felt like I melted into a fifth dimension or something. They all gave me those brain zaps. It's called tremors in the side effects section.

I recently started on Cymbalta. It's new and it's a dual uptaker. The only thing I notice with it is when I take it in the AM it makes me nauseous if I take it in the morning. So I take it at night before bed. Been on it a month and have had no problems so far.

BTW, the shockwave sensations "zaps" you are feeling WILL NOT go away, at least they didn't for me. But everyone is different on each medication. On Cymbalta, I lost 10 lbs because of something in the medication. I lost my appetite (I still eat), just not as much. That's a great plus. It's made by Eli Lily same makers of Prozac
