the information is easy to read and understand.

Be aware that referrals for counselling can take a long time. It will be much quicker if your surgery has one attached to them, but if you are waiting for an assessment by your local psychotherapy department it will be much longer.

It would be a good idea to ask your GP which he is referring you to if you don't know.

Counselling is about talking about your fears, worries and problems and learning to find ways of dealing with them. So you won't have anything 'done' to you, but it will only work if you are open and honest and prepared to work hard.

Don't expect to feel better immediately and be prepared for each session to be emotionally draining and possibly quite upsetting as well. This is because you will be talking about things that will be hard to deal with and probably bring back memories of difficult times.

Counselling does work but only if you are prepared to fully engage and get the most out of it.

I hope this proves useful.

they will just ask you how you are doing, what you are doing w/ your time, what you do when you are depressed (coping skills), ways to help your mood, etc.

they will ask u about ur past alot, as ouviously they need to know why u got like this, and theyl ask u to go back to the time when u fist starting to feel like this and why and how do u feel now ,,

there just mainly there to listen . U do most of the talking

A Counsellor will listen to you and ask a few questions later. Nothing to be afraid of. Its like having a friendly informal chat about your life and whats worring you and suggest to you a possible way to deal with the problem/s.

Hi I'm so proud of u and glad your going they will just ask u how your feeling help u cope and also u need to tell her u don't feel il ike Christmas she will help u cope good luck sweetie Tam xxxx

Don't be nervous. They are there to help. They will be understanding and just work with you to try to help you get away from your depression. Good luck and I do hope you can help yourself here.

A really good counselor is going to be biased the entire time and will ask you questions about why you are there to see them. Then they will branch off and ask questions about what is bothering you about the situation. Don't be nervous. They are there to help you and will delve into your personal life. It is best to honest with them from the beginning on everything in order for the counseling to work.

You probably need to be put on medication so you'll need to see a psychiatrist. They know what they are doing.

They just ask how you feel, are there any reasons that you think you feel like that, how long it has been going on for and how did it start....questions like that. You can tell them as little or as much as you wish, they dont push you. They also might make you fill out a chart which asks questions about how you feel about certain things to get an idea of your depression.
There is no need to be nervous, these people are specially trained to put people at ease and should be non-judgemental towards you

In my experience. First they ask you why are you here? Example: depression, anxiety. Then they ask you about family. If anyone else has a history. Why to you feel depressed? They ask questions, to try and find out the cause. Is it hereditary also. Questions are mostly to get you to open up and understand why you are feeling the way you do. And if you don't understand something or the question, they will help you. They are not there to judge you. Just to help you deal with your problem. It may be a combination of psychotherapy and medication. Email me if you need to talk.

They make you feel like sh*t
