I don't believe on psychiatry field?!

Question: I have been through severe depression and anxiety since I was 15. At 20 I learned about psychiatry to find the treatment. So I say that to treat depression and anxiety, I have to receive medication which something I hardly find in my country, Malaysia. I have been longing about medication, medication until I give up. So I talk about my anxiety to my friends and gradually I am relieved. I think to be treated from depression and anxiety, it is not necessarily to go for medication. Talking to someone, I mean not figuring the problems alone, can help to solve the irrational anxiety and depression. Am I right?

If you are fortunate enough to have friends who can listen, empathize, and support you, then you may be able to work through your depression with out medication. Medication helps when people are so depressed that all the help their family and friends can give, doesn't work. Medications can help a person be able to access help. If you can access help without medication, that's wonderful. The natural ways to deal with depression are - talk to people who are supportive, exercise, meditate or pray, focus on what you can do to change a negative situation, and have faith that the difficulties you now face will pass.
Normally, people come out of depression with no help at all in six months. With help, they come out much quicker, with skills and support that will help them not drop into depression again.
Good luck to you - may your positive coping strategies continue to work well.

Ya, it's called therapy. Your doctor should have recommended it along with the medication. Most meds don't work by themselves. You won't get better without help.

Come to America - they hand out antidepressants to people like candy here.
On a more serious note - you can get through this with some help - someone to talk to.

Yes, only you know what will help!

You are right!!! Anxiety and depression can not be medicated away. The medication will only mask it. Anxiety and depression are symptons of other problems. Talking about those problems will help you find out why you are anxious and depressed. Talking (honestly) about problems will give relief. Keep talking to friends, and when you talk, be sure to talk to friends who are willing to hear you honest feelings and troubles without wanting to cast you away. Real friends are the ones who stay when everyone else leaves.

yes and no.... Yes talking to someone can help A LOT... but sometimes talking to a friend, religious person, or a therapist is not always enough... there are times when medicaitons are needed. Medications are not a quick fix. There is no such thing as a "happy pill"

but talking is a some what psychiatry.... psychotherapy, looking into Freud, Eckerson.... to name a few.... even if the person isn't "licensed" to give advice or just to be someone to listen to.... that helps....

Hey
Pray to Jesus, He's there for you and can help you through this tough times.
No joke.

There are more than one cause for depression. It could be a chemical imbalance, and an anti-depressant medication, such a serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor can correct this imbalance.

Other times it is caused by learned patterns of maladaptive thought, which get better by talking it out, especially with someone trained to teach you more adaptive coping skills. However, simply talking it out with a friend helps too!

Some of the other comments here are very correct, the best way to go is often medication plus therapy.
