How can I stop trying to fill myself up emotionally with food?!

Question: I know its hard. I know it takes a life change. I know I'm doing it out my excessive anxiety and depression to supress my thoughts. But the problem is I don't know how to stop. I remember when I was 11 or so, I started buying random junk food and would consume it all after school. I'd just eat and eat so I wouldn't have to think about how worthless I really felt. More than ten years later, I keep going back to that. I can take all the antidepressants they prescribe, pills to make me sleep, and I can continue to go to therapy. I know why I do the things I do, but I don't know how to stop. I am giving so much information because I just need any type of advice right now. I was walking a lot. So I can maintain my weight now, but I can't live like this anymore. Can anyone relate? Any advice?

drink water or vegetable or fruits instead
its more healthy
and put music on and dance to make your mood better
you also burn more calories

find something else when your feeling down when your upset go take a walk and listen to your ipod (if you have one) or read,do sudko, anything that will take your mind off what ever it is thats bothering you

wow i need to take my own advice lol

try listening to music to take your mind off food.

Or try bubble gum. Low calorie, keeps your mouth busy.

I know you already know this, but this is an addiction. An addiction that is overlooked often. You can go to a twelve step program to help overcome the addiction. Twelve step programs are very helpful in learning and utilizing the steps toward an addiction free life. I help run a program for youth and I gain more from it sometimes. I also struggle with being addicted to food. If you feel uncomfortable going to a twelve step program, look at support groups in your area. Start one up if there are not any there yet. Many people suffer from food addiction, they just are not aware of it. I hope this helps. you can find the actual steps on the internet. Don't be put off because they mostly deal with alcoholics and drug addicts. I promise it can help.
