I was wondering if there was anywhere else I could go to for my clinical depress!

Question: I've been clinically depressed for two years now, however I just didn't realize it until recently. Now I know I have it, and I want to get help but I'm not sure where to go. I talked to my doctor about it three days ago and she suggested that I go to a psychologist. However, all the psychologists in my city don't have receptionists. Thus, they never answer the phone and you always have to leave a message. So if they don't return your call or they're out or somewhere else, you're out of luck. It's really hard to get a hold of them, my sister went to one for stress and it took her several months to get an appointment.

I have all the symptoms, I seriously literally ache everyday and I hate waking up in the mornings. It's become really unbearable and makes time lag for me now.

I was wondering if there was anywhere else I could go to? I really need help.

Psychiatrists also deal with depression.

Can you use a church counselor or regular doctor? With something like this, getting on medication may help to where you don't need to see a psych. after all. My general doctor put me on Effexor XR for depression and it has been wonderful for me (I have been on it for over a year) - and I used counselors at a church (which was free) to talk about how I was feeling...good luck and kudos for taking this big step!

new york. i know it sounds wierd but if you dont have anxiety disorders, go to new york and just walk around. you'll see the good and the bad that other ppl have and it is also a fun way to just get out of your current environment. im bipolar and it really helps me to just leave my life for a couple days everyonce in a while. hope i helped?

Look up psychotherapists. You must deal with the fact that since many of them work solo and even on a part time basis, you'll have to leave a message with interest in making an appointment. Call a number of them in your vicinity. Those that call back within the week, setup let's say about 3 appointments -- with 3 different ones, then decide which one you like best, and continue seeing that one on a weekly basis. It shouldn't take months to get a hold of one, then they aren't any good, but it might take them a few hours or a day to get back to you.
As far as having someone to call who will almost always be just a call away if you are feeling really down and need to talk, there are hotlines out there -- besides calling a friend or family member. Also look into group meetings you could go to -- maybe through a hospital or somewhere you may find in your newspaper. In those groups, they may setup people to call.
The main thing is I would see a psychotherapist, if not a psychologist or a psychiatrist. You may be recommended to also see a psychiatrist if you'll be evaluated for any prescriptions. Best of luck to you. And just an extra thing if you haven't tried this (you don't have to tell anyone -- but I highly recommend following Tony Robbins, his main program, Get the Edge (a bunch of CDs you can put on an iPod). He's a great motivator -- works on all aspects of life -- worth a try!).
