I have a question about marijuana, anyone?!

Question: I understand the effects of marijuana while you're high. I want know if there are effects that persist even while you aren't high. For example, if one were a habitual smoker, say once a day, is there any chance that you even when you aren't high you lose social skills, your thinking process is abnormal, it's easier to get depressed, physical problems, so forth.

Hi jansen;

When i was a young man i used the stuff and i know from first hand experience that it definatly does cause longer term effects on your memory as well as cause forgetfulness and anxiety and depression,, I got out of that nasty drug using binge when I was in my late 20s and I feel so much better and my mind is very much more clear and the thinking process is back to normal, It has been many many years since those days and to be totally honest I really love being normal and not paranoid and all the effects that go with it, i am now almost 50 and life is very good, Pot makes a person lazy and makes you not want to deal with public issues as well as making you confused and yes the effects last a long time after smoking it but eventually things come back to normal,, Besides that nowdays if you was to get into a serious accident and someone gets hurt very bad they will drug test all involved and if your under the influence you will be prosecuted even if you have not smoked it for two weeks because it stays in your system for urine and blood for thirty days and if they do a hair test then it can go back 6 months and your still gonna be prosecuted under the influence and then its a long jail sentence,, My advice?? dont use it,, years ago poeple could get away with it but now our country has a no tolerence policy and it could put you in a world of hurt with the justice system,

Crappy memory, being a bit slow for a few days after.
It shouldnt affect your social life or influence depression.
Physical problems will be similar to the smoking of cigarettes.

NO

you forget things. short term things, and you are slower at thinking.

No...although the pot stays in your system for weeks, it dosen't actually effect your body

legalize it

All the above.... That's why they call it dope.

My memory went to crap when I was smoking every day. I wasnt as good at my job and I was fairly moody to my family to be honest.

a person looses Neurotransmitters..these guys ease the flow of current through our nerves..if no transmitters no transmission...less communication with the brain..less capability of concentrating and making decisions!

yes that is true because after you been smokin for a perrty long time then even when you r not somkin it still affects you

I never found that to be true of the long-term pot smokers I have known........now ask about long-term alcohol drinkers.........

although it's never been proven, I know several people who have "smoked themselves stupid"... you can only lose so many brain cells before it starts to effect your response time and how you interact with society. Some people have a higher tolerance, however, and can get away with it a lot longer.

I do think so. I used to smoke it off and on when I was a kid in high school. I would have brain farts all the time, like memory lapses, etc. I also think it can mess up your psychie and cause some issues with your mental health. I got anxiety issues after quitting, panic attacks out of the blue, depression, etc.

marijuana is the one drug that is not physically addictive. so if someone has withdrawls they're either faking it or it's all in their mind. it's not like meth or crack where you can snap at any moment. at my NA meeting some kid came in and said he was addicted to weed..... it was stupid and completely ridiculous...

i personally dont have any issues with it causing problems after ive went without it a while. i have heard that people ARE like that but with experience and seeing my many friends none of us have that problem at all. but for a 100% sure answer i just dont know. thats just my personal experience with it.

My ex husband seemed fine and he smoke a lot, now this was at the first part of our marriage. As time went on he seemed to have so called side effects even if he wasn't high. He would be in a daze a lot and you could talk to him and he would have such a delay. Also his short term memory seemed to deplete as well. I don't smoke weed, so I can't give you any personal advice, but based on what I have seen it does affect you as time goes on.

only when you are high your thinking is abnormal,
its easy to get depressed. physical problems are only
for heavy smokers of marijuana.
I quit smoking weed 5 years ago after smoking for 8 years

Absolutely - I've had a very scary experience with my brother who is addicted to marijuana. He was vulnerable when he started smoking weed but the effects have made him into a really scary person - I smoked a bit when I was at uni but the experience has put me right off.

He is completely paranoid , flits between depression and hyperactivity and cannot forge social bonds - it's quite frightening and this is first hand advice.

I know the majority of people don't get problems like this but I hope that what happened to Tom can be useful to other people. I understand it sounds preachy, but what's happened to us and him is pretty unbearable - and I have to say, marijuana DOES lead to other drugs, and it's not pretty.

short term memory is slightly bad, but not where you can't remember anything. other than that there aren't any side effects that happen when u aren't smoking. so no there are no side effects.

I really think it affects a persons memory.. I had to stop smoking because I couldn't remember where I put anything. It was so aggrivating. When I stopped smoking I got headaches for awhile too. I started having panic attacks and I've never had a panic attack before in my life. Can't say for sure it was related to smoking but I didn't start having them until I had been smoking for awhile.

Let me tell you something, in my teenage years, I used too smoke weed every day, and get high, I love my weed. I stoped when I was 22, I went to college and got my masters, and I have a great job with great pay. After smoking all the weed, I have no problems.
I wish they would legalize it because it has a lot of cures for things out there.

I used to indulge every day and manage to keep friends hold down a decent job so always thought it wasn't a problem..,and it wasn't! As for social skills I probably didn't notice if they were rubbish as all my mates were doing the same thing.
I now live on the dutch boarder and go and grab some whenever I want which i thought would be amazing and it is except i no longer feel the need to. On occasions I like to enjoy a smoke but just not everyday now,

Differences I noticed that I find it much easier to get up in the morning and my skin is better(that is probably cos I'm doing more sport outside rather than playing consoles and watching TV). My girlfriend seems to think that I am more lively and wider eyed.

Best thing by laying off for a while is that the effect is much better when you do have a smoke.

Honestly, I used to be a regular smoker and the only time I felt any effect of Marijuana was when I was smoking it. When I wasn't high, I was just normal.

i am a heavy smoker, and have been smoking for a long time. it does not mess with you like that, meth does those things to people.

No,None of these problems would happen. If they don`t happen when your high why would it Happen when your not.Marijuana is not physically addictive and should have no side effects when your not on the drug.Long term heavy pot smokers mite have some of these systems, but it would take years of smoking it.Alcohol will cause all those side effects.
They need to do more research.Unbiased research, right now they have being trying to prove that marijuana has harm-full effects,But there studies have never proved that it causes these harmful side effects. The latest study says it may cause mental illness, but, there data is inconclusive. The fact is a report without real facts is propaganda not science.I`m not saying that there is no harmful side effects. They just have not proved it yet.

Hello,
NO
Usually I would think people self medicate for the reasons you listed as potential side effect IE lose social skills, your thinking process is abnormal, it's easier to get depressed, physical problems, so forth .
There are people out here who take it for medical problems. It is not a fix all drug, however with over 200 strains to choose from marijuana is a science these days.

Believe it or not nature is the best medicine.
