Weight loss + antidepressant drugs - advice?!

Question: Okay, I'm thinking of taking a combination of St. Johns Wort and 5-HTP to self-treat depression and help me with weight loss. I think that such a combination isn't uncommon, based on my research - what possible side effects or problems might I experience? Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Only one advice: DO NOT "self-treat" depression. EVER!
Only a certified psychiatrist can evaluate your depression and prescribe the appropriate drugs.
MANY things can go wrong because of drug interaction. DO NOT self-medicate, especially with depression drugs.
Go to a doctor, please.

Don't take anti-depressant drugs. Especially if you want to "Self-treat" yourself with them. Once you start taking them you don't even become yourself, and when you stop taking them, you are even more depressed than when you started. And no pills really help with weight loss. Start a fitness plan where you are eating a healthy diet, and excersizing regularly.

For me, flushing out the system helps loose weight I was on antidepressant drugs for 10 years and they made me gain alot of weight. the diet and exercise is bs for many people on these drugs. I've tried and so have people I 've known. Antidepressant drugs are bad for you and can cause other problems if taken for too long. Why are there so many lawsuits against these drugs now? I've been through psychiatry and it is nothing but bs and ruined my life. I have been off drugs for over a year and am much better and function well. I have used natural medicine and I think sam-e is the best. a bit expensive but worth it. u can use it long term unlike st jon's wort or 5htp. sam-e is prescribed in europe for depression. us drug companies just want to make $. st john's wort cannot be taken with certain things. sam-e is pretty safe. drugs change your whole body chemistry so be ware!
