Stress can cause you to either gain or lose weight, depending on your response to it. Corisol has been linked to weight gain but high levels of stress can also cause you to burn up energy at a faster rate than usual which would lead to a loss of weight. Stress can also cause you to lose your appetite so that would definitely lead to weight loss. When I first moved out of home I lost quite a bit of weight, even though I was eating fairly well, more than I had when I was at home in all honesty. After having quite a few tests done the weight loss was deemed to have been caused by stress. Your weight loss could be cause by stress. It could also be caused by the poor diet you are having to rely upon to sustain you.

Is there somebody you can to for help and support? If left untreated stress can cause you quite serious problems, aside from issues with weight. Please go to your Dr or somebody and seek help. The website I have linked to has some information about stress that you may find useful to read. Best of luck xxx

Corisol is your stress hormone, typically it also is correlated with weight gain. I would think that high stress individuals would be more likely to gain weight than lose it.

Only counter to that would be if you are worrying so much that you arent eating healthy, and thus losing weight. Which is definitely possible with the depression individual.

I'm with Carl here:

Figure out a way to not stress so much. You may initially lose weight but your weight loss will not be from fat. Try to wirte out your problems. Set aside a certain time to stress your brains out (10-15min) and afterwards go on with your life without worrying until it is time to stress again (old psychiatrist trick). Meditate. Sleep at least 8 hours a night. Eat well.

Life is short enough and you never know when your time is up....so live it up.

I agree with these two guys above me, normally, stress will make you gain weight because that is the compensation our the body. But having a true depression can really make you lose weight because you will have no energy to go on with your everyday life, let alone eat on a regular basis!
