What's the best cure for "Holiday Blues"?!

Question: Assuming you have no family to be with.

Answers: Assuming you have no family to be with.

I have no family to be with since they live thousands of miles away. I GET the Holiday Blues and here are some things that I do to help me over the hurdle.

Turn on your favorite music and listen to it loud!

Light a scented candle or inscence

Rent a funny movie or watch a movie that you really liked

Eat Chocolate or bake some chocholate chip cookies and eat them with a glass of milk---Eat a food that you really like (comfort food)

Keep lots of lights on when you are home.
The Holiday Blues are not just caused by
not being with your family, but it worsens with lack of light.

Remember that after Dec. 25th it will all be over--The days (after Dec 21st) will also start to get longer.

Get on the phone and call friends.

Go online and chat with people in Interest Groups, Answer questions on Y/A

Write--

Visit with friends

Read a book

Exercise---even if that means bundling up and going for a brisk mood (you will be surprised how much this changes your mood).

Holiday Booze!!!

There are many different ways of dealing with this. A friend of mine drinks til he cures it, not something i recommend. A few other people hang out and around with their friends. Friends that are close tend to become a family therefore you don't feel alone anymore. You could burry yourself in work or a project. This would make time go by faster and also take your mind off of everything. Try reading/writing a book, playing a game (such as Anarachy Online, its a free MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), or crossword puzzles, ect). You just need to find something to take your mind off of things that also gives you some enjoyment.

Do some volunteer work. Helping others always makes me feel better. You can do something like help out at the homeless shelter or just offer to do outdoor chores for a neighbor who's not able to. I know it's hard not to get the blues when alone this time of year, but helping others really does boost the spirits.

All of these answers are great... personally, I do the volunteer thing, and it really works for me. Helping others to have a good christmas cheers me up, and you can make some wonderful friends that way. Also, many other people volunteer because they are in the same situation as you, and you may find others to start traditions with.
At the very least, it will keep you busy; that will make the time go by faster.
If you prefer not to think about the holidays at all, and you can afford it, there are all kinds of "singles cruises" and specialty vacations. You could be tanning on the beach while others shovel their way out of the driveway.

Waiting somewhere safe for February to come along.
