Buying things makes me temporarily happy...?!

Question: I'm a 17 year old male, and I have a lot on my mind. From school work, social life, and everything else.
And when I go to a store, I forget all of that.
I know I have a problem, I need help, when go out and get something(clothes, electronics, even songs off of iTunes) it brings me peace for a while.
And when I don't I kind of get depressed from all of my problems. I heard about my problem, but I forgot the name of it.
Please, I want to change.
Not dumb answers please.
Please tell me what I can do to help me.

I have the same thing; it's a very common issue. I don't know of a specific name for it, but this is a common symptom of many disorders.
If it is not serious now, it can become serious. I've been told, by my therapist, that when things like this happen it's because I'm too much inside me. What it is doing is satisfying me for doing something for/to me. It's a form of a collapse inward.
You mentioned "I have a lot on my mind. From school work, social life, and everything else." Maybe you are focusing too much on these things. Try to get outside yourself. Go volunteer somewhere. We all have times like these. We just have to learn how to cope with stress, prioritize the things to be concerned about and handle them as appropriate.
What can you change? Change it responsibly and appropriately.
What can you not change? Accept it if you can't do anything about it. No guilt, no shame in what you can't change.
Please see a therapist.

First, go speak to a psychologists. It sounds like you have an underlying problem and buying things temporarily covers it up. Second, dont bring that much money with you when you go out.

I have mostly the same problem.. I've been told to write everything down..it helps.. and something I cant live with out any more.. is my stess ball.. They both Take my mind off alot.. Hope it helps a bit

I find that shopping for me is a big stress reliever! I love it and it does make me leave most of my stresses and worries behind for just a little bit. For me its relaxing.... However, I don't feel unhappy when I am not shopping as you mentioned...

I think that if you feel unhappy when you are not buying, then perhaps it is a problem. Maybe you should talk to a psychologist about the pressures you are feeling toward work/school and social life. This could help you pin-point what it is you want to change!
