Maybe I can be of some comfort to you. You need not worry that you will not get enough air in your lungs to breathe sufficiently. This is because unless you create an anxiety episode through paranoia, your body breathes on it's own and adjusts your breathing such. Also, your brain has complete control over your breathing for the most part. You can try holding your breath to the point of passing out but then what? Once you pass out your brain takes over automatically and starts breathing for you whether you want to or not. You then wake up and find yourself breathing. So unless air is sucked out of the room or someone or something prevents your body from reaching air, it is impossible to die from suffocation. Just keep in mind that when you breathe, your body will get enough air whether you think so or not. If you needed more air your brain would tell you (not literally) to adjust your breathing to breathe heavier. If you are not engaging in exercise and this happens, usually one or two deep breathes takes care of the lack of oxygen. Hope this helps, stay healthy.

Counseling will do wonders.

Once, I worked with a guy who wanted to shave his eyebrows off to see what was under there. He ended up seeing a psychiatrist and all is well now. :)

Sounds like a classic example of anxiety/hypocondria!!!! Your fine! Your breathing is fine! Its when it stops you have to worry!!!

Maybe you should look into it. But maybe somehow you just need to find something to take your mind off of it. Your breathing cannot just stop unless you have a health problem, so maybe if you just go in and get it checked out you will not worry about it anymore.

So long is it does not disrupt your ability to function it is only an annoyance. However, I suspect that this is a manifestation of some other larger issue and should be address through counseling. I am likelihood this situation will get worse in response to increased stress. With the holidays upon up this would be a prime stress inducing season.

Good Luck

yes, you should talk to someone about this. don't worry about not being able to breathe, but perhaps there's anxiety, or maybe the firing of a neurological "can't breathe" neuron which a neurologist can identify better - i'm just some jerk on yahoo answers, i don't know anything, but suggest you discuss this with someone not because you are going to suffocate but because your own peace of mind is the important factor around which your life largely revolves.

The breathing part will take care of itself because no matter what you do the body will insist on breathing. Even if you pass out, your auto system will kick in and....yes breathe.
What is more important is these compulsive thoughts that are affecting you. If allowed to manifest your imagination will rule your life and make you and people close to you miserable.
Sit down and talk with a professional and best of luck to you.

When your mind is not occupied and you begin to worry about your breathing, you must take charge of the situation.
Be sure to breathe deeply and slowly. Do not let yourself breathe too fast. When you exhale be sure to let all the air out.
Tell yourself, "I am in control of my breathing." "I will breathe deeply and slowly." I hope this helps.

panic attack..got the same problem
