What is an effective medicine for depression with little side effects?!

Question: I realize all anti-depression medicines have side effects. Some must have less than others. Does anyone know of any?

I take Paxil CR. Works great for me.

I have found that Paxil, in small doses, doesn't seem to have side effects.

sunlight....sunlamps

Wellbutrin is supposed to have little side effects but I found it didn't work enough for me. Celexa, an SSRI, seems to have little side effects that I've found. In my experience, Paxil is the worse. Haven't tried the CR version though. You may also try using a light box, which mimics sunlight and can improve your mood naturally too.

Yahoo answers is definitly NOT the place for advise on medications!

You need to find out what the depression is about, there are different kinds; hormonal, situational, clinical, etc., etc. There is even one related to winter (SAD)!

All psychotropic drugs have some bad side affects. I strongly recommend counseling, determine what type of depression it is, and treat accordingly. Today, too many people are given drugs and really don't need them so we have many zombies walking around higher than heaven.

Be smart and do this the right way.

Go to a Doctor NOW.

Exercise has been proven to be the best and first line of defense. Try it first . Then worry about the drugs 2nd.

It is really an individual thing, because eery person will react differently to the same medication. You should talk to your doctor and decide what is the best thing for you.

Just make yourself get up, and get out of the house. Life is passing you by! Take charge of your life again! Go visit friends who are optimistic about life. Quit wallowing in despair!

the best depression medicine is yourself we live in a fast moving world and there are many people out there that are going through some sort of depression we need to slow down a little bit and think things through try to do some of the things that Maker's us happy or sometimes sit down and discuss things with some one we trust give yourself some time before taking any drugs good luck and take care of yourself after all there is only one you.

It really depends on the person and the med. Some people have no trouble to zoloft, but I had a hard time on it. Serone wasn't too bad, but I would zone out sometimes, I had this constant ringing in my ears and it made me a little anxious and tired. Wellbutrin has been pretty good so far. But just because I don't have any side effects for me doesn't mean it won't for you

The "Prozac Class" is usually pretty good when it comes to not having side effects. That includes Prozac, Celexa, Zoloft, Effexor XR, etc. I am on Effexor XR and it has no side effects. But just remember that just b/c i don't experience side effects, doesn't mean that you wont. It is all about the dosage and how your body metabolizes it. Be careful, and I am sure there is a "miracle drug" out there suited for your needs. ;-)

what type are you worried about I know some side effects are low sex drive and some keep you from overeating I dont really know of any with a problem in the side effects area. I would share all my concerns with my Doc. he-she can answer all your questions. If you feel you need antidepressants dont wait seek help now. Take care Tammy
