Retreating from the spotlight - what would you think?!

Question: People who know me, know that I'm shy and soft-spoken. If I'm in a small group, however, I will open up and talk a lot but it's a gradual process. On the other hand, if I'm in a large group setting, I seem to retreat from the spotlight and don't like when attention is drawn to me. Basically, the shyness comes back full force.

So, today, during a grab bag with friends, I had to open up a gift in front of them. Ended up getting the one I brought. Once the group realized, they all said "aww." Since the attention was all on me, I kind of shyly took a few steps backward, trying to back away from the group (and attention), shook my head a little to brush it off and said it was ok, kind of shyly. Felt embarrassed and was blushing. Someone in the group traded gifts with me. I still feel embarrassed though.

What would you think about my reaction/behavior?

I think that is the normal reaction/behavior for a very shy person. Don't feel badly. There is nothing wrong with being shy :)

I am the same way ~ I'm Ok in very small groups, but get too overwhelmed in large groups of people. I also get flustered in small groups when there is a lot of attention on me.

I think that if you can learn to laugh at yourself, you'll have a lot more fun with life. What happened is kind of funny, but you are taking it so seriously. Heck, hope you at least got yourself something you like!
But seriously, have a good giggle and realize that life is meant to have fun with, not be all weirded out about stuff that really doesn't matter. Stop sweating the small stuff, and most of things are small.
