Advice on living a happier life?!

Question: i am nearly 30yrs old now, gosh i do not consider myself a man of maturity and wisdom.I have so many ambitions, none of which i have even attempted to pursue.I have made so many mistakes in my life.I do not consider the consequences of my actions.I have become emotionally weak.I cannot live in happiness with my family and friends(not their fault),as i consider their lifestyles as simple;lacking any experiences and creativity.Yet i am too emotionally weak to leave and pursue a different life.I realise i will always be in a depressive mind set unless i pursue the lifestyle that make me happy.
It will only take me 6 months of work to be in a good financial situation.Whilst doing this,i can change my behaviour towards those i love and care for-this i know will help me overcome feelings of remorse and guilt, leaving me in a strong emotional state of mind. The problem is i have lacked the discipline to do what i know is right and for the best.I am hoping someone can suggest abooketc or anytips

Not preaching here, but you stated that their lifestyles are simple, lack experiences and creativity. It would seem that it is you that might be lacking in these things but are too arrogant to see that it is really you. Again, don't know you and don't want to judge...but you are the one that is unhappy here.
No book is going to give you what you need. You need action. If you aren't married, then why not consider chucking everything and joining a volunteer cause, like the peace corp? I mean, heck, that will get you into action, helping others and will bring out the very best in you. Your heart will become more compassionate and open, you'll develop discipline, and you'll have a sense of well being from helping others. Most of all, you'll be into action and out of your head.

The biggest key to happiness - believe it or not - once you are financially set - is to find out what you can do to help others - you may be the most right wing Republican out there and that's not the answer you want to hear but I've heard it over and over again.... Good luck ...It's also a Judeo -Christian thing to do even though many who read and profess the Bible are the last to do it...I'm not knocking religion, by the way, I'm as religious as I can be, just the many phony hypocrites who say don't practice their true religion by a longshot....P.S. (I'm not perfect either - but there's a lot of hypocrisy when it comes to helping people in this world....)

Blessed (happy) is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. Psalm 1:1
Try reading the Bible. You'll find answers there. John 3:16

Having a positive attitude is helpful. Join a gym, exercising is great for relieving stress and releasing endorphins.

grateful people are happy people, and those who aint-aint!

Set a reasonable goal, something that involves doing for others. Try your hardest to complete that goal and you will find a rewarding ending. Do this over and over untill it becomes second nature. It worked for me.
