Why would someone be afraid to go on break in a safe and friendly work environme!

Question: I have been pulled aside and asked politely to take at least 30 minutes for break because of labor laws and because I am recording that I am taking the break. I am trying but I am only hitting 15-21 minutes. Whenever I leave my desk I feel lost and afraid. I feel safe in my desk and I really don't want to leave it. I don't even leave on time because it takes about an hour to get the nerve to leave my desk. What is wrong with me? In every other area of my life I am completely normal but I am like a drug addict when it comes to my desk.

You're a work-a-holic or you just really don't want to seem like you're slacking off. Stay at your desk on break and read a book or something. That way you're not leaving your desk (making yourself comfortable) and you're taking a break (making your boss happy).

you may have an anxiety/panic disorder. You should speak to your Dr. about it.

It sounds like you may have some control issues going on. Or at least some territory issues. Try contacting your company's EAP (Employee Assistance Program). It's free and confidential.

Until you feel comfortable leaving your desk, go on break and just read at your desk. Be careful that you don't rock the boat with your anxiety. They may invite you to your termination of employment.

There could be a numbe of issues going on here. It could be something like anxiety disorder, or OCD, or maybe even just simple workaholic. Talk to you doctor is this is disconcerting to you.
I wish you the best of luck!

That is where you feel secure and maybe you feel that you lack something when you leave your desk. Maybe it is too boring or the people are not too great to be around.

I'm not a doctor or therapist, but it sounds like you may be suffering from social phobias or agoraphobia. Is there an employee assistance program at your company? They could help you find counseling or whatever might help you out with this. Your problem isn't an unusual one. Good luck.
