How do I get out of this place?!

Question: I have been in a sort of depressed slump for the past few months. I have always delt with depression but now it's different. I don't have the normal symptoms, I just don't care about anything anymore. I sleep in, don't exercise and just don't really care anymore. All my professors are really dissapointed with me and its really embarassing. I am also turning into kind of a hermit. I am in my last year of college and am not really sure what I want to do with myself. I go out and have no fun because it's always the same and a hangover is all I am left with. How do I get my sh*t together and get going again? How do I find my motivation? Has anybody been through this before and has any guidance to offer.

I am already taking meds and seeing a therapist which helps the depression but doesn't help me do anything with myself.

I kind of went through this, and sometimes still do. sometimes I think being mentally overwhelmed with so much going on can cause you to pull out of life. also being happy takes so much work that sometimes it's too overwhelming to even try. right now you don't have any motivation to do anything cause mentally you are spent. but the motivation will come after you go to work. just take baby steps. exercise, thats a huge one, that helps alot sometimes not at first but over time. find something that fits you and do it. like walking, running, punching a bag. sometimes that helps relase all the pain your feeling. eat better, even if you only do it from time to time, over time that will help then you can add more later. also you have to find a different thing if you life right now isn't working. yeah you need to finish school, and you don't need to dump all your friends, but sometimes putting yourself into a completely different place will surprise you. like for instance don't go to the same partys. go do something you never would of done before. like dance, Karate or a sport or something. yeah it might sound lame, but sometimes something fresh can open your heart and mind. and when you meet different people that are completely different from the type of people you usually surround yourself with makes a big difference. but don't just do it once then be disapointed that no one really noticed you, or talked to you. getting to know people sometimes takes a long time. I own a gym, and I teach Cardio kickboxing classes, which i love. however I decided to start taking a Karate class. it was completely different from what I was used to doing, out of my comfort zone, but it was fun, and at first everyone in class was quiet and kept to themselves. now here it is 6 months later and we are all just starting to laugh together and have fun in class together. also this is something you've heard a million times i am sure, but stay away from the alcohol, that only promotes depression.

you need sum motivation .. start burning !

I know it may sound corny, but change your thinking. If you start to think more positively about yourself and where you are going in life you will find the motivation internally. Do something about your future, make decisions about what you are oging ot do after you graduate. Take steps towards fulfilling those goals. Stop sleeping in. Oversleeping will increase the problems with depression.

sounds like burnout . You have been doing the same things for so long you just dont want to continue. Break out by trying something completely different , join a club, go bowling , anything different.

Focus on what you want in a few years and use that to get you moving towards it now .

Clearly the meds aren't working, I'd get your dosage checked out and maybe change doctors if your not seeing or feeling results. As for trying to beat depression by yourself. Not easy. Especially when your in the middle of it.
I have depression myself and if I get into the zone of not caring, I give myself time. Now time isn't always possible especially in University, but it helps. Remember what it feels like when your doing activities you like. And also you need to find an outlet. Either a counselor or close friend, someone non judgemental.

It sounds like you have seasonal depression. Usually it begins happening between September and November. I've been feeling the same way. You could discuss the possibilities with your doctor. Usually seasonal depression is treated with artificial light therapy. The sun is enriched with vitamins that makes a person feel good. So during the spring time your depression may lift. The only thing I can suggest is try to push yourself to exercise. I found that daily exercise always made me feel better.

Hey sorry that you are feeling this way. I have been out of college for 2 years and I can understand where you are coming from. I myself have gotten into a funk over the last couple of months but was able to pull out of it. What you have to do is realize that life is short and there is no reason to ever waste time. You have to try and do everything to the fullest of your capabilities whether its passing that final or even cleaning your room (sorry those arer weak examples). You cant ever be perfect but if you try to be perfect you will leave everyone else in the dust and you wont ever feel as though your life is being wasted! Just do eveything in your life the absolute best that you are capable of and you will feel better about yourself, your life will improve and you WILL BE HAPPY!!!!! Hope this helps I know it sounds simple but it is, most people go through life half assin things and are unhappy. Just make it happen, and you will find your place in life I promise.
