Someone asked if they have OCD now I think I do?!

Question: Ok, so when im in my kitchen if there is a cabinet open i MUST close it if i dont it eats at me an eats at me until i run over and close it, i cant think about anything else if a cabinet is open. My parents open all the cabinets to annoy me sometimes. They get really annoyed that i lcose them tho because i have draws in my room that i leave open and that doesnt annoy me. If a syrup or ketchup bottle (or sumthing else like that) is open i HAVE TO close it. I have othet things that annoy me but i dont feel like typing anymore. ANyways do i have OCD???

There are two signs that would qualify someone as having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The first is that there involves an obsession and a compulsion. By obsession, I mean that if a certain act is not carried out, you obsess that something detrimental will happen as a result and the compulsion is the satisfaction of that act in order to relieve the anxiety associated with the obsession. Second, it has to interfere with your every day functioning, meaning that you would not be able to go to work unless every cabinet, condiment bottle, and toilet seat was closed...thus causing you to be late every day. You get the point. Based on what you are describing, I would say that you don't have OCD.

maybe a really really mild case. OCD is a serious mental disorder that controls people's lives. So, you may just haev a fixation with certani things being open/closed, but i highly doubt its OCD.

Maybe a little bit :o) As long as it is not interfering with you life... Like having to open and close the cabinets several times before you can leave the house or something, then I don't think it's anything to worry too much about.

I doesn't sound like it. Most people have certain customs or rituals that they feel they must do but this alone is not OCD. People with OCD have no choice when it comes to their rituals. Their actions are usually connected with strong but completely illogical feelings that something bad will happen if they do not follow their urges. It is only a problem when the rituals required of a person effects quality of life.
