Can I cry for a second? Mental illness s u c k s?!

Question: My mom is schizophrenic. She will not get medication because she does not believe she is ill. We cannot get help for her until she does something drastic.
She is keeping my dad from visiting this Christmas, she rules his life. He has cancer and can't walk. She said they would visit, but now I have to explain to the kids why the grandparents won't be here...after they were so excited and made plans for little presents and things. How much longer will dad live? We are all crying. I hate HATE HATE the laws that prevent us from getting help for her. If she were in her right mind, it would kill her to know that she is tearing us apart.
Sorry...I just wanted to write this, I am really in pain.

Keep praying for your parents.

I am really sorry to hear about your pain. How sad that your parents are in a bad place like that. My step mom is schizophrenic but takes meds. Are there any support groups you could look into? Or online forums for family members of people with mental illness like schizophrenics?

Good luck.

Thats really sad. It's really difficult to deal with a schizophrenic patient. .
The thought of having ill parents is too much for anyone.
Try talking to mom?
Very heart breaking indeed. May u find some peace.

Unfortunately until she becomes a threat to herself or others this is true. There isn't alot that can be done. It's unfortunate for your family and your father. The question now is what CAN you do to make the holidays bearable for all of you? The first thing that comes to mind is perhaps you could make a video for your father. Just because he cannot be with you doesn't mean you cannot find a way to share the day with him. I am sure the kids would enjoy helping you with that project. If you don't own a recorder could you rent one?

It's ok to be sad angry and disappointed. But we also have to let it go and find ways around the roadblocks placed in our paths.

I too am temporarily in a wheelchair, and I am unable to be with my family this holiday season. I cannot tell you how disappointing it is for everyone. We telephone alot use the computer, share pictures, anything to keep intouch and communicate. You could send the little gifts so that they are still recieved. I grant you its not completely ideal, but then again it's not a total wash either. I have learned that life is a series of give and take. Another consideration would be ... is it possible for you to visit your dad? Even after the holidays?

Good luck... with some creative thinking I am sure you can think of things I haven't even mentioned.

OMG I am so sorry! My dad got sick one time I cryed every time I seen him in the hospital because he couldn't talk and had tubes in his mouth! I know what you are going through! Try talking to your mom! Even if it seems inpossible! Sorry and wish you the best!!!!!!!!

Id just like to thank you. This probaly doesnt make any sense to you, but your story has really helped me just now
