Is it possible to have depression for 3 years and suddenly it goes away?!

Question: I had depression for 3 years but I never told anyone and nobody noticed. I was still the same person. I have been depression free for 4 years now. I love God, very involved in my Catholic church, love school, still have some problems but life is great. What do you think?

YOU ANSWERED IT YOURSELF:
The first thing you said that YOU love GOD!! this is why you are not depressed anymore, God knows all and feels all and he ia your answer, But that was scary what you said that no one noticed, how they not noticed?(someone should have)..God Bless you and never stop believing inhim and never stop loving him God that is and continue to love yourself.

yeah it could happen it happened to me but there was a change, a big change I had a new outlook on life!

i'm happy for you

The depression may have been caused by something in your lifestyle. I'm talking about things like not getting enough sleep or having a meaningful job, etc. I've had times in my life where my lifestyle made a large difference and I was much more depressed.

Sometimes, low serum cholesterol levels can starve the brain of seratonin - this can cause depression sometimes. maybe you have eaten poorly, increased your cholesterol above 160, and now your depression is gone. good job - keep eating mcdonald's hamburgers.

Most definitely. I know people who went through some pretty severe depression and now are fine. Congratulations, that is wonderful. God is awesome too!

Maybe you weren't even depressed in the first place; just going through a really bad situation (sometimes psychiatrists/psychologists exhaggerate and create a problem may not really be there). Anyway, whether if you had or not depression enjoy the fact that you are happy now! We are always going to have some little problems, if not, what would be the fun of life? Problems and projects give us something to work on and enjoy life.. so enjoy it and Merry Christmas!!!

yes...
me, it takes 2mos only..
no taking drugs,
just having faith in my heart that Jesus really loves and
cares for me.
He is my great healer.
He alone are worthy to be praised!

you never know.

If its a chemical embalance no....if its because something u were upset about absalutly. I hope thats the case!!!! Good luck!!!

I think that your depression was not biological. I think that you were in a bad situation and found your higher purpose.

For some people it's biological. They may have done too many drugs...or their mother did them while she was pregnant...or it could be genetic...severe abuse (I mean SEVERE) can actually change the functioning of the brain on the physical level as well...and permanently if it happened early and for a long enough time.

I also think marketing anti-depressants to people in a bad situation is wrong. Most doctors will give it to you regardless...helllooo kickbacks

Sure it can happen. Depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance. If that imbalance is corrected thru medication or diet you can start feeling better. There are many things that can cause this imbalance (stress, hormones etc)

Yes, it could happen according to my therapist. The nature of depression, that is, where does it come from and how it goes away is not quite known. However, be advised that those who sufferend one cycle of depression are likely to suffer another one, and then more.

If you say you were the same person and nobody noticed then it must have been not too severe. I'm glad for you. When it's severe it's impossible to hide.

Miracles can happen, through God. :) Before I clicked this question, I immediately thought of God when I read your question so it's no surprise that I read this and see you're in touch with your faith. I hope you continue on the right path. :)

I think it is possible for it to suddenly go away but I would advise going to a therapist anyways to make sure it doesn't come back and so if it does, you will know ways to deal with it

Yes. Good for you! : )

Depression may be caused by negative thoughts, poor circumstances, loss of loved ones, genetic factors, biochemical imbalance in the brain, emptiness in heart, unforgiveness, addictions etc.

There are some natural mood lifting food and vitamins that you can take with your drugs. They are:

-multivitamin
-Vitamin B complex pills
- Vitamin C
- GABA (you can get this at a pharmacy) it is a natural neurotransmitter in your brain.
- SAMe
- Calcium
- Magnesium
-Evening Primrose oil
- Flax oil
- Omega 3

try to have some exercise daily. Go into the sun. Talk with friends. Pray to Jesus, he gives you peace and lifts your mood. These are scientifically proven to work.

- Listen to soothing music on a couch.
- have aromatherapy
- eat healthily, oats, wheats, brown rice, more fish, chicken, lots of vegetables and fruits and other natural food, less oil, no sugar, no deep fried stuff, less red meat
- drink lots of filtered or bottled water
have a pet
- cultivate new hobbies
- do not take alcohol and avoid caffeine
- tackle your problem that is giving you depression. Problem solve with a counselor or friend to reduce the magnitude of the problem.
- Every time you catch yourself thinking negatively, think what is the most positive way of expressing your feelings and thoughts.
- Forgive others, release all bitterness and release all grudges, love God and love others
- Do a kind deed each day. Volunteer your service to the elderly, orphans etc
- I know I have said a lot. Take baby step, one step at a time. Give yourself time to get out of depression.

Think positively.

You may want to see a psychiatrist and counsellor to work out your problem. Psychotherapy may help. Prayer does help. Claim healing from Jesus. He loves you. Read the Bible, start at book of John. Take note of John 3:16, Acts 2:38. It is God's love message to you.

For anxiety, try deep breathing from your diaphragm and progressive muscle relaxation. You can buy books on how to overcome depression and anxiety.

It takes time to lift out of anxiety and depression. First thing is that you desire to get out of them. Next is the tenacity and perseverance to make changes to your life.

I've been through depression and anxiety, so I understand.

God bless you richly and have a blessed Christmas. Attend a United Pentecostal Church nearby your home. (www.upci.org)
There are brothers and sisters who care and be friends with you.

Depression does take time to go away, especially when you have had it for 3 years.
