Answers: What exactly is in those pills that makes your brain change or relax?
Benzodiazapines (the most common family of anxiolytics) work by increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA is a chemical in your brain which is essentially responsible for slowing down transmission of info between nerve synapses (hence increasing GABA leads to an overall "slowing" or calming effect).
it performs a chemical lobotomy on your brain. eventually makes your more insane then you were before you take them.
Michele's answer is spot on.
You can also buy GABA in it's amino acid form over the internet, which does the job as well, if not better than benzodiazepines.
