How would i know if i have memory loss or amnesia ?!

Question: im a borderline personality disorderer sufferer, however one of the symptoms that i have everyday is ' racing thoughts '.....my thoughts are crowded....and they race everyday, dozens of thoughts , worries anxieties racing through my mind all at once.....i forget things regularly...struggle to remember them....struggle to hold a train of thought or to concentrate or focus or think strait..

i have bad panic and anxiety everyday....i only really go outside when i have to.....the rest of the time i isolate myself.

so basically my thoughts race everyday in combination with i keep forgetting things i was thinking about an hour ago....a day ago...etc.
when i forget....i panic and my moods plummet as i try to remember, but the more i try, the more i forget....crowded thoughts just flood my mind.

could this be related to amnesia or memory loss or brain problems?

at the moment im going to seek a second opinion because i worry that i have a ' coexisting ' illness along with the BPD & that

People who suffer from Bi-Polar/Manic depression have racing thoughts. It can be extremely frustrating too! There is nothing worse than to have a fantastic idea race through your mind before you have the chance to write it down and it vanishes.

The worst thing you can do is to panic! When we panic we begin to forget more things. Learn to relax and do things to help both your body and mind relax. Eventually the thoughts or ideas that you had will come back to you. Oftentimes I have found that when they do return they are even better than they were originally when I first thought of them.

Getting stressed out makes our memory temporarily worse.

There are different degrees of Bi-Polar. Not all types require medication. In my family two of my siblings are extreme enough that they require medication as well as a neice.

I am a mild bi-polar and trained myself to let myself go someplace else in my mind whenever I feel panic or anxiety coming on. I find something pleasant, enjoyable or relaxing to focus on my energy on.

Many Bi-polars or Manic depressions, as we were once referred are extremely creative and artistic people.

It sounds like you could benefit from a medication. Perhaps it would be best to seek a second opinion. Best wishes!

if you forgot everything! but alzheimers is much worst than that..

perhaps your friend could tell and remind you about that when you are gonna do sth but the next sec. you just forgot what is it you are going to do.

I have the same problem. I have whole gaps in my memory even from what I was doing hours previously and get easily confused and disorientated when I go out, losing things, palpitations etc. I've said I thought it was early Alzheimer's and people laughed but it's a serious issue for me. Not at all funny, really affecting the quality of my life and those around me. I don't have an answer to your question but await the others with interest. Good luck xxxx

Btw I have heard that Ginkgo Bilbao is supposed to help with memory and concentration.

I have been using this alternative therapy called Emotional Freedom Technique on my anxiety and depression which has helped me a lot. It's very good at getting rid of all kinds of negative emotions and dealing with all kinds of issues quickly. It does sound crazy but does work. It might be something that can help you. Try some of the techniques from the fourth link. Also click on the link about EFT helping this bloke on Yahoo Answers with his agoraphobia.

you really should see ur doc, u obviously have some anxiety based depression or borderline pesonality disorder. not all meds are addictive and ur doc will help you find the one thats right for you. im only guessing here but ur racing thoughts could be schizophrenia (and please dont panic when i say that, i dont mean to scare you). try some calming and relaxing techniques when u feel a panic coming on. listen to some soothing music, close ur eyes and imagine a calm beach somewhere, waves softly laping on the shore.

please visit ur doc tho, get a second opinion if u have to, ask to be referred to a councillor too.

you say ur borderline pd but who can u know this without a proper diagnosis which means for the doc to say u dont need meds is rubbish. maybe he thinks without meds things can be done to help but it's obvious that you aren't right and therefore need something to help, even iof its just to calm you down

Take a $100.00 bill put it up in a favorite jacket pocket or in a book you never read or under the tv. write it down where you put it, write it in a place you hardl go in like the closet in the back in pencil on the wall very small so only you can see it and in code so only U know what it means, go look for it in about two weeks and see or look for it when you really need it. If it works then go get some memory inhancers at the health food store and start taking thetablets they are herbs, and no side effect. tell the clerk exactly what you are looking for..good luck
