Gift from employee?!

Question: You work with a girl who is friendly, but very soft-spoken and doesn't talk much. It usually takes a lot to drag her out of her shell b/c she normally keeps to herself and just works very hard.

She walks in your office, says she has a present for you and hands you a bag with a bottle of wine for Christmas. You smile and thank her a few times. Seeing your reaction makes her grin from ear to ear. But she didn't hang around to talk or anything. She just excitedly twirled around to leave after hearing your gratitude.

What would you think about her/her reaction?

She strikes me as someone that cares about people, but is afraid of much contact. Probably because she is worried about saying the wrong type of thing or hurting someone's feelings. I think she wants to make friends but doesn't want to come across as pushy. I think that if you smile at her, it will make her happy.

I would think that the girl appreciates your efforts of trying to befriend her and it makes her happy to see that she has pleased someone with her gift.
She is probably someone that cares more about working hard and making others happy...than about recieving gifts herself.

She obviously likes you, but is very shy. You must have been nice to her.

appropriate, and it means that she is thankful although (like you said) she can't express it with words!

It was just that, she gave a gift to someone, nothing more-nothing less. I used to micro-manage my life-it led to more disappointment than anything. People are just people, different in there own ways, but none-the-less people. There are however those that just play on others emotions-just for kicks-these are not very good people. So in reference of your question-Kind hearted person.

I would agree with the above - she's just really appreciative of you talking to her and taking notice of her.

The real big problem with being like that is that people think you're being unfriendly when in reality you're just not confident around people. You do still notice when people are friendly though and you're no doubt making quite an impact on her deep inside.

Just keep being nice to her and don't push her too much, and you really could change her life for the better. I know, it happened to me...
