Do antidepressants help?!

Question: I have depression......Should I ask my doc for antidepressants? Will they make me fat? I don't care about being fat because maybe then it would keep away sexual predators! The whole reason for this depression is a stalker that kept stalking and begging for sex

I would not go on medication until it is your last resort. I used to be issue bound with depression, anxiety and etc etc - but i tried a few measures to get myself back on track.

Firstly dont feel sorry for yourself - its the worry that will get you - get up and do something about it.

I personally believe that NLP therapy is one of the best solutions out there. It gets to the root of the problem and removes it.

EG - This stalker was and is the cause of the problem - it made you learn how to be depressed - so in theory you can unlearn the depression you feel - which is what NLP did for me on my problems. 1 -2 sessions and you should be right as rain.

Give it a try - if you dont believe me look up articles on it via the internet and make up your own mind.

Alternitevly - talk to some one and try to talk it out and move on with your life.

Put him down as a lesson and look at it as a good thing - he has shown you what kind of nutters are out there - he has taught you to not make the same mistake.

umm
antidepressants didnt really work for my brother
and some do make you gain weight

a quick and easy solution for the stalker is my moms personal "anti stalker system"

wait for the creep to come to your house then chase him into an ally and beat his a** with a metal baseball bat

guarantee to make him disappear REAL QUICK
true story
:]

and by disappear i mean he wont bother you again

not kill him
haha

let him at least run away after your done!

I have (had) mild depression, and was described Citalopram, Venlafaxine and finally Prozac; none of them worked, I experienced weight gain, hair loss, constant nausea and anxiety. I quit all of them and got into exercise; I run, swim, surf and play basketball and haven't had a depressive episode for five months. WARNING: seek medical advice before coming off antidepressants, especially if you do what I did and go 'cold turkey'; the effects are horrendous. It sounds in your case that if you can stop this guy harassing you it might end your depression. Do you have a family history of depression or is this an isolated case? Good luck...

well i think you should call the police. and have this stalker locked UP. because this is the root cause of your depression. once that is sorted. so will your depress on.

There are different causes for depression. It can be due to stress in the environment, which is best treated by alleviated this stress, or learning ways to appropriately deal with the stress. A mental health professional can help you learn these techniques.

There is another kind of depression that is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, specifically with nuertransmitters like serotonin. There are many different medications that act in differerent ways on different nuerotransmitters, and will be of great help to someone who is depressed because of a chemical imbalance.

Different medications have different side effects, some in fact do make it harder to lose weight, or even weight gain, but that is usually only a percentage of the people who take it.

You should not ask your doctor for antidepressants, rather I'd reccomend going to a mental health proffessional who can help you determine the real cause of your depression and determine if you would benefit from medication.

Regardless, as some other people pointed out, if you are concerned for your safety, you should pursue legal action, and try to get a restraining order. If he says or does something that freightens you, you have every right to call 911, noone has to live in fear.

Good Luck!
