Does anyone else have the holiday blues?!

Question: I am so depressed it's sickening. I do not want to feel this way. I try to appreciate the lights, the sounds, the colors of christmas. I even rented a happy movie; I try to remember the excitment of what Christmas used to mean to me. But now I feel like god himself has forgotten about me. Anyone else feel something similar or am I all alone in this too?

~ Christmas brings up alot of expectations for everyone,,,,and alot of memories,,some happy ,,,some sad,,,,I dont think God has forgotten about you,,,Is there a reason that you are depressed? if you can add to your question on why you think you are sad,,,mabey we can help,,,
Did you just lose a loved one? or just ended a relationship,,or made a job move? alot of times change is hard during the holiday season,,,,but elaborate on your question,,and there may be some of us out here that would like to offer a ear, or a shoulder.....

I feel ya! I quit smoking pot this month, lost a few friends in the process and am dealing with all kinds of surprise bills that are really testing me. Add Chrismas on top of that and I'm about to go outta my mind.. but, stay postive.. hang in there... all that good stuff. We're humans, we're crafty and we can do it!

Not really the blues, but I certainly dont enjoy the holidays like I used to. Its hard to get into the spirit.
I have 2 kids, so I do things for them and they are very excited, so thats fun to watch them, but I am not feeling it!

Yes, and Yes. I had to understand that the holidays are a man made event to celebrate one thing but we have gotten way, way off course in my opinion. I don't do Christmas because it is too commercial for me. So I had to change my mind about it. Because my old way of thinking was not working.
Blessings.

Fact is yes. Christmas is known to be a very depressing time of the year for many. Not to mention the commercial end of it is disgusting. And all the stress buying gifts out of obligation, putting up tree's, the parties there's no end to it and what, what is the celebration. Jesus's birthday do you think he would aprove if he were here. The gluttony and greed with some when the other half of the world doesn't have enough to eat. Fact is I think your normal with the blues and sensitive to your surroundings. In the Bible the 2 greatest commandments are love god whole souled and love your neighbor as yourself. Found in Mathew 22: 37-39 If the human race followed that as a rule do you think there would be a xmas. God will never turn away from anyone, you are precious to him. If you draw close to him he will draw close to you. James 4:8. Christmas used to really bother me what I did was quit celebrating. It doesn't say anything about xmas in the Bible.

Christmas can be a lonely time. some can get Seasonal Depression.

Depression may be caused by negative thoughts, poor circumstances, loss of loved ones, genetic factors, biochemical imbalance in the brain, emptiness in heart, unforgiveness, addictions etc.

There are some natural mood lifting food and vitamins that you can take with your drugs. They are:

-multivitamin
-Vitamin B complex pills
- Vitamin C
- GABA (you can get this at a pharmacy) it is a natural neurotransmitter in your brain.
- SAMe
- Calcium
- Magnesium
-Evening Primrose oil
- Flax oil
- Omega 3

try to have some exercise daily. Go into the sun. Talk with friends. Pray to Jesus, he gives you peace and lifts your mood. These are scientifically proven to work.

- Listen to soothing music on a couch.
- have aromatherapy
- eat healthily, oats, wheats, brown rice, more fish, chicken, lots of vegetables and fruits and other natural food, less oil, no sugar, no deep fried stuff, less red meat
- drink lots of filtered or bottled water
have a pet
- cultivate new hobbies
- do not take alcohol and avoid caffeine
- tackle your problem that is giving you depression. Problem solve with a counselor or friend to reduce the magnitude of the problem.
- Every time you catch yourself thinking negatively, think what is the most positive way of expressing your feelings and thoughts.
- Forgive others, release all bitterness and release all grudges, love God and love others
- Do a kind deed each day. Volunteer your service to the elderly, orphans etc
- I know I have said a lot. Take baby step, one step at a time. Give yourself time to get out of depression.

Think positively.

You may want to see a psychiatrist and counsellor to work out your problem. Psychotherapy may help. Prayer does help. Claim healing from Jesus. He loves you. Read the Bible, start at book of John. Take note of John 3:16, Acts 2:38. It is God's love message to you.

For anxiety, try deep breathing from your diaphragm and progressive muscle relaxation. You can buy books on how to overcome depression and anxiety.

It takes time to lift out of anxiety and depression. First thing is that you desire to get out of them. Next is the tenacity and perseverance to make changes to your life.

I've been through depression and anxiety, so I understand.

God bless you richly and have a blessed Christmas. Attend a United Pentecostal Church nearby your home. (www.upci.org)
