Stress that is pervasive and non-specific. In other words if I experience anxiety/stress only when I take a math exam, that is not prolonged stress. However if I am fearful and uncertain and anxious, sometimes to the point of paranoia, about how I look, how I sound, whether or not my girlfriend loves me, whether or not my boss hates me, whether my work is good enough, et cetera, that is prolonged stress. It's prolonged because you can't figure out how to give yourself a break from all the self-imposed pressure, or you have lost the ability to relax because of your overwhelmingly defective sense of perspective.

Past stress itself isn't an indicator of higher risk of recividism in this respect. Your continued good health will depend upon avoiding poor behavioral patterns that lead to prolonged stress. The better you feel about yourself and the life you choose to lead, and the more constructive people you have in your life who care about you, and less about the car you drive or how much money you earn or how much power you exert, the more likely you are to enjoy great mental health.

Good luck with your life.

Look it up on the net.

Prolonged stress is usually defined as more than 2 weeks. (ie if you are depressed for more than a couple of weeks you should see a doctor). In reality most folks suffer for months, even years before getting medical help.

How you deal with stress is entirely individual. Some people recover easily, others are never the same again.

stress is truely one of the most damaging things people deal with.,.... fortunately there are many effective ways to alleviate stress.....

returning to good mental health is a good beginning to recovery... some affects take time to heal...

It remains, and keeps flaring up for years. Can equal to depression. Be careful and get help/support.
