Can i be cured from depression without medicaments?!


Question: i was depressed since i was i little girl, now i am a married woman and i am afraid it could ruin me and my husband. i was using medicaments such as zoloft, prozac, and many other types that goes with in the therapy. now i am in a new crisis, i have no motives for a thing i am trying but i can not any longer. i wanna be ok, but without medicaments or any kind of therapy, i think i can but i need a bit of help, tell me how to help myself.

Since this has been a problem from childhood I would tend to think meds would work on you, of course finding the right one can be hard. There are several possibilities as to why they are not working....1. Misdiagnosis-you could be a bipolar type person who never really hits mania, and a mood stabilizer like depakote or lithium might beneifit you more. 2. Alcohol consumption- if you consume alcohol regularly there is no way a medication can help you chemically. 3. Need for therapy.. This is assuming something tramatic happened when you were young... In this case you may have to work on yourself for years and be patient with yourself, truth is you may be sick enoguh that in the past you enjoyed the extra attention you got from being ill, and now its getting old but you cannot seem to break the cycle.

The question is hard to answer, some people can get out of a depression without meds, they arenot the answer for most people, but a tool to help you get the answer, imagine trying to build a house without a hammer and nails, it can be done, but it will take alot longer to do it without them. I think the best thing to do is to sit down, write a long list of things you are doing that cause depression for you....that is the things YOU are doing that influence it, it could be being a couch potato, drinking, working in a job you hate, whatever you are doing that makes you unhappy, then once done, rank those things on what is easiest for you change, keep this list around and starting changing behaviors that you are in control of. See if that works after 6 or so months, by looking back at the way you felt when you made the list and the changes you have made in your own life to make things better. A med in most cases can help along that time.

I have been depresed and unwell since I was a child and
intensive counselling helped me a lot - also helping other people helped.
I think it is great to want to come off medication but you have to do it gradually and with help.

I certianly coudln't have done it without help.
