Wellbutrin Question?!

Question: I recently started Wellbutrin but don't have much information on it. Can anyone tell me side effects and how long it takes to go into effect? Am on 300 mg per day. Thank you...

For me, it literally started to help within the first week. But like all antidepressants, it takes 4-6 weeks to see it's full effects. 300 mg is a normal dose. I've been on it for a very long time and the only side effect I ever had was loss of appetite when I very first started it. I have been on a number of other antidepressants and this one has been the most effective (with the least side effects) by far.

It is true that it decreases the threshold for seizures...especially in doses of 450+ (450 is the max recommended dose). That is why it is not an appropriate medication for people with a history of seizures and/or a head injury. Also not for people with eating disorders. (This is related to seizures but I can not recall precisely how).
Without the above-mentioned factors, it is not a terribly high risk.

It works differently than other available meds. It is called an atypical antidepressant and it targets dopamine (where a lot of the other ones target serotonin or serotonin and norepinephrine).
It can increase anxiety/agitation/irritability - in my experience, most people who stop taking it do so for that reason. For me personally, it does not appear to make my anxiety worse (and I have a high level of it).

read the product insert that comes with the pills. or go to a website to find out more info on it. or ask ur pharmacist to print u something out on it

Generally:
Dry Mouth (which I didn't know about until I got contacts) So if you have contacts they may dry out quicker than normal.
It is an appetite suppressant. You'll probably notice you just can't eat as much as usual.
Increase sexual sensitivity. (yay to that! It goes away though)
Constipation (that sucks but goes away.)
I heard seizures and some of the typical stuff that comes with every medication.
Drowsiness/Insomnia

Here's a suggestion. Take it before you go to bed, that way you won't notice the side effects the first couple of weeks. I do it that way and have never noticed anything, even when I increased my dosage from 300 to 450.

I know one side effect is seizures. I have seen 2 people have a seizure because of it. Try to get Prozac or Zoloft they don't have the same side effect.

I also am on wellbutrin, but 400 mgs. You are not on a high dosage, but if gets increased one side effect is anxiety or panic attacks. Also, another side effect is loss of appetite. Your doctor should have told you to take this medication just during the day, because it can also cause insomnia. Buy yourself a PDR book, in any store for around $8.00 and it will tell you the side effects of every kind of medications, not just for mental health. That's what I use when I want to know the side effects. Side effects affect everyone differently, so be sure to let your doctor know of any unusual feelings or changes in how you are doing. Good luck on your depressions, it'll get better.
