What sleeping meds are prescribed for someone with bi-polar disorder?!

Question: I take thorazine in the evening, but it doesn't knock me out for obvious reasons. What are you other bi-polar folks taking for sleep?

I take Seroquel (100 mg) and a small amount of ativan (.5 mg). Before I was put on them, I had dealt with insomnia all of my life. I was put on them and finally able to sleep - several years later they are still working for me and I have not had to raise the doses.
Seroquel has been found to have the added benefit of some mood stabilizing and antidepressive effects.

I have bipolar II & take additional meds in the AM.

Saratone, thats what my brother takes.

my balls are

I take 100mg of Trazadone.

i was prescribed AMBIEN.

pro: sleep well

con: can't funtion right the next day. like its very hard to drive, and i feel as though i am high, and don't remember parts of my day.

be very very carefull when taking it.

my sister is bipolar and she is taking three different sleeping pills to knock her out. I call her a cry baby and hide her pills when I go over to her house... I think that therapy is a better remedy for you guys than a ton of pills. I know I lived with my sister who has been bipolar for ten+ years and when she was speaking with a counsler she was better and slept through the night.

ack, i.ve tried all sorts of different stuff.....i did excellent on ambien for a while, but at one point i purposely od.d on it and took 200mg, now it doesn.t work on me.....i.ve tried zyprexa, risperidal, seroquel, lunesta, halcion, trazadone......trazadone works the best for me, small dose tho, i spilt the pills.....lunesta worked for me but it left a horrible metallic taste in my mouth for about 18 outta the 24hours of the day.....seroquel was decent, took me a little longer to get outta the drowsy stage after waking up, and the rest knocked me out for wayyyyyyyyyy tooooooo long or left me drowsyyyy way after i woke up for the day

Try Zopiclone.
Take it 30 minutes before bed, but don't drive after you take it.

i have mild bi polar, and anxiety disorders, etc..
and i was prescribed lorazepam.. mostly for anxiety, but they use it for insomnia, etc, and it didnt make my bipolar swings any worse..

I took seroquel for over a year and was taking 400mg. Plus: it would put me to sleep in about 20 minutes. Bad: craving for sugar or carbs. It was unbelievable how far I would go to fill my need. I would buy little Debbie's snacks like a champ. my new Dr does not prescribe seroquel to any patient. she feels it is way to power and the therapeutic results are still uncertain.

New sleep med. Trazodone. Does not work as good for falling asleep, but i do sleep throughout the night. Good: no more cravings for sweets and have lost about 20lbs over 6 months. Bad, nothing major. Only problem is that there are still some nights that I just toss and turn.

well i take 200mg of trazadone and 1.5 mg of klonipin

When I was having a lot of trouble sleeping I took Trazodone and it knocked me out right good. Now that I'm doing better I just take a couple Benadryl when I'm having trouble falling asleep.

I take Lunesta to manage the insomnia from the abilify i take as a mood stabilizer.
