What's it like being on meth?!

Question: I've heard it's fun from friends, but I've heard it sucks from TV.

TV and my friends are equally unreliable sources, what's it really like?

We French are too good for these peasant drugs. If you were civilized you would smoke cocaine rolled into a cigarette or use "ekstazy". This ugly americaine woman say she use meth probably because she never experience a sex with a French man.

Addictive, dangerous and eventually, all-consuming.

Stupid, makes you want to jump out of windows cause you think you can fly!! Didn't you watch that after school program with Helen Hunt????? JUST SAY NO!!!!!!

Well, it's considered one of the best possible highs you can have, but it's easy to get addicted (not just because it's fun...it's actually mostly an immediate physical addiction. You go through a pretty rough withdrawl immediately after the high and almost feel like you need more). Also, it's easy to go overboard with it in terms of dosing. That's where all the horror stories come in where kids end up running around with a knife or staying out in the snow for 5 hours because of delusions and such.

Basically, both the tv and your friends are telling truth, but they're telling the two extremes. I'm sure there are people who get away with it once, but it's pretty risky and I sure as hell wouldn't try it, and I'm actually not one who's against drug experimentation. Heroin and methamphetamine--the two things that no one should ever touch. Obviously part of the reason why it's addicting and ruins your life is the 'fun' part that your friends mention, but recovery is ridiculous and honestly, there are much safer (and just as awesome) things to try than meth. Your friends dig it now, but when they're nasty (really ruins your teeth and overall appearance once you've been on it awhile) and addicted or someone has a bad trip, I think they'll be singing a different tune.

Edit: Although Mari's answer isn't very thorough (or good), she reminded me of something. Delusions of grandeur are very typical of a meth high, like she said. Jumping out a windows, thinking you're superhuman, etc. can be really dangerous.

And...I know this is a scare tactic that a lot of people use to keep kids off drugs, but I KNOW this is real because I've seen it and I just want to give you an idea of what it's like after you get into the meth cycle:

Honestly, it's not like the government's ploy against weed where it's pretty ridiculous that it's considered so evil. This is some real sh*t, man.

Coming from a person that's tried it and been around alot of people that used it for long term. DON'T DO IT. it makes you feel good for a while and then it begins to take over. You can't live your life, and it's not possible to maintain your life before meth. AS for explaining what it's like to be ON meth...No one can. The language fails us, although we use words like 'rush' 'high' 'spin/spun' the language is unable to express a feeling unless a person has already felt it at least once. Might as well try to explain what blue is to a blind man who has never seen color, or try to explain a bird song to a deaf man. The words we use are mostly symbols of things we already know. When I say "blue" you know that blue is a color and you have seen it and understand blue. Same thing applies to being high. it's addictive and a one way track to your grave, so start digging. also just to let you know i'm not some stuck up anti drug mom. I'm a 20 yr old girl, and i don't think that SOME drugs should be illegal..for example marijuana is not a drug. I've tried ALOT of things, and METH is one i will not go back to... if you want to slowly kill yourself (not only physically) but the person you are on the inside... then try it...otherwise STAY AWAY

Well yes, the high is fun. You feel so happy, so talkative, so energetic...just great. This lasts for only a little while, though, until you come down, and then you feel awful--depressed, lethargic, pissed off. So you need more, and do more, and the cycle begins. Oftentimes people will go on binges and stay up for days--my friend did this but then began to suffer from psychosis and had to be admitted to a hospital.
It's more addictive than cocaine, that's for sure: the high lasts longer and it is cheaper. It's more dangerous than cocaine in the way it affects your body. I wouldn't recommend it.

Just like when you use other uppers -caffeine, chocolate, cocaine - using crystal induces a chemical "fight-or-flight" response and changes a whole host of bodily functions: your heart rate goes up and thus your blood pressure increases, the pupils in your eyes open up wide, you feel more alert and as though you have more stamina, you get a sense of physical motivation and you definitely have increased verbal activity even though some of what you're saying might not make sense to other people. Meanwhile, other functions decrease, like the sense of hunger and thirst or the need for sleep, you know, things that will get in the way of this "fight-or-flight" action.

The color of meth can vary a lot, depending on its purity. In its cheapest and less processed form called crank, the drug takes on varying shades of greasy-brown, sometimes with black flecks. Meth gets its nickname crystal because of the appearance of its most sought after form. Usually it's found, seen or acquired as a clear-to-white crystalline substance that can look like long, thin shards of broken glass. The crystals can be swallowed or smoked as is, crushed into a powder for snorting or dissolved in a liquid before swallowing, injecting or booty bumping.

For me It was the best feeling ever... AT FIRST! Than I needed more and more and everytime I did it I became more and more crazy. I get so parnoid that I know if I went to the hospital they would tell me I had psychosis. I would think everybody hated me (even my best friend) I would be conviced there were camera's everywhere. I thought people were talking in "code" about me. I would think my own family was going to kill me. Even though in the back of my head I doughted it was real I could not convince myself it was not. I would get so freaked out. Sometimes I would get really bad chest pains. I could feel my heart beat just standing still. I would feel insane. None of that mattered though because I still kept doing it for those 30min to an hour where I felt really good and not crazy. The crazy feelings and the paranoia did not happen right the first time or even the second or third but the addiction did. At one point I was so out of it I was fallowing different people for hours because I thought they were other people... Another time I got in a huge fight with a friend cause I was convinced she was video taping me. I even thought I saw the flashes from the camera's. You llok crazy and feel crazy. Even when you come down and go through a horrible come down and withdrawls the parania does not go away right away and for some people it never completly goes away. It's really not worth it at all!
