Maybe he was nervous. If its both of your first times he may be nervious and worried. Try taking the pressure off. Maybe decide to just fool around but both agree that its not going to go all the way. I'm sure you will both relax and have more fun. Be sure to protect yourselves though.
I don't know your ages, but I'm assuming you are young. I mean no disrespect but is he on drugs? This can actually affect his being able to have an erection.
relax and don't force the issue. nerves and preformance anxiety can get the best of you the first few tries. Just try to be as comfortable as possible and it will happen.

Without going into details of foreplay, an hour of messing around without doing the actual deed can cause an erection to go away. I assume you mean he NEVER got an erection, not that he had one and then it went away. Maybe knowing that it was your first time made him nervous. There could be a million reasons why it happened. I can't explain why that would happen, maybe it was just not good timing, or sometimes when foreplay is stop and go, it can throw a man off track, I'm a little concerned about your ages. That could be the cause as well.
How old are you? If you are underage and he is over 18, he's lucky - that would be rape. Is he drinking or using drugs? Too many variables to help you effectively.
