Why is it so hard to force myself to take my meds when logically I know I need t!

Question: I'm bipolar and I know medication is the only successful treatment, but I have a hell of a time making myself take my pills every day.

I'm bipolar also and I COMPLETELY understand what you're saying and where you're coming from. I too and am trying to figure this out because I'm having the same problem as we speak. I have two full prescriptions sitting upstairs and I know I need them, but I just can't freaking take them.
If it's any consolation, people with bipolar disorder are notorious for having trouble staying on their meds. We're not alone in this.
Personally, I wonder if I just want a little, tiny, temporary elated portion of the mania just for a few days... and the want for that "high" is enough to make me stop taking my meds, even if just subconsciously. When I'm on my meds, I'm very mellowed out in comparison but sometimes it feels like I'm approaching depression and freak out.
Other possibilities I can think of include adverse side effects and once someone starts feeling better, it can be easy to ditch the meds because you feel fine, as though there's no problem.

Psychotherapy in conjunction with the meds should also make it easier to stay on the medication, or so I'm told, so being honest with your doctors about your trouble might help. They probably have some ideas. :) My psychiatrist shifted the types of drugs involved and their dosages a little and now I'm more likely to take them... but still not having a lot of success. I've tried coming up with personal motivators, like only letting myself have coffee (which I love) if I take my meds with it, but I haven't mustered the motivation.

I hope you find something that works for you! All the best.

Do they get stuck in your throat or something? In that case i eat a banana or something and swallow it with food rather than liquid. But if its just you can't even bring yourself to put the pill in your mouth...that is an issue you need to work out with a doctor or psychiatrist.

probably because it taste *yuck*?

try eating sweets after you've taken your medication. .
