What are the signs of depression?!

Question: I think I may have one. Recently I have problems with doing the easiest daily activates. Waking up in the morning is a struggle. I am coming back form work and cant wait to go lay down in my bed and watch TV. I have to really force myself to do the easiest things. I could go without washing my hair for a week. What should I do? How could I get my motivation back? Do I need to take some type of antidepressants? I would rather not.

Thank you!

i would say no to prescriptions as well, you need to reflect on recent events on something that might have disrrupted your living patterns, everyone suffers a form of depression at some point and just needs to sit back and take a little more me time. Find a purpose to wake upto maybe a hobby or something more challenging like being a mentor to a child, its not easy but start of as slow as you need you have no one to prove yourself to and never stop getting outdoors and feeling what it means to be alive.

The safest bet is to go to your doctor. Also, I heard depression is partly caused by slow mental thinking, so it's not your fault!

The ones you listed are signs of depression, and there are more. Instead of taking antidepressants and possibly making things worse, go see a therapist or psychologist of some sort. I applaud the fact that you are trying to realize whether or not you have a problem.
Good luck.

I would say you are depressed. Talk to your doctor. From my experience, anti-depressants are a good thing. They're not the tranquilizers of the old days. They could help you work out of this funk you're in and give you the push you need to reorganize your life.

You don't need antidepressants, well most people with depression don't. Get yourself to a qualified psychologist who can diagnose and treat you. Therapists such as cognitive behavioral therapy have the same success rate in combating depression that antidepressant medications have except with therapy you're less likely to relapse than you are if you just take the medication. Do not believe the lies that depression is simply a neurological disorder that requires drugs. Science shows us that this is not true. Try therapy and unless severely depressed treat medication as a second resort.

anti depressants are a no no
once your on them and you skip a dose,
your unbelievably depressed.

find a hobby that highly motivates you, and the thing that helps the most is just going out and having fun with friends and/or family, force yourself to do it if you have to. It'll help in the end.

try not to go to medication. it could be anything....... the way you eat, you may not exercise enough. we dont know your daily life so go and see your doctor and tell him/her what your regular living is like and he/she can put you on the right track. but try to avoid medication cos once youre on it its hard to get out of it. and trust me i got rid of depression so quick naturaly without antidepressants. hope ya get it sorted. see a doctor

It sounds very much like you could be depressed. You should make an appointment with your primary MD, if you feel you have a good relationship with them, or make an appointment with a trained, licensed psychologist. Trust me, doing so does NOT mean you are crazy! A psychologist cannot prescribe meds, by the way. A Psychiatrist can. The psychologist will talk to you about anything and everything, and who knows? You may find out some things have been bothering you, and you did not even realize it. They are there to help you, and if you don't want to be put on meds, then say so. As someone who suffers from chronic depression, I applaud yourself awareness of your feelings, and wish you the best. :)

oooh man I know the feeling...OK I know you here this alot but just pray or force your self to be active by workind out,OR just do what I do and draw what you feel and hate on the only thing that will never jouge you.......your art pad or note book :]
