lithium is an option, but i didnt like the side effects.
you should really talk to your doctor about this, not yahoo..

Lithium is one of the most widely used medications for bipolar disorder.

You don't say how long you've been on the medication. It could be that you have not had the medication in your system long enough. Maybe the dosage isn't strong enough yet.
Call your physician and talk to them about your concerns. If you have a mobile crisis unit, call them. They can triage you and contact your physician on your behalf, and actually expedite you getting back into seeing your physician.
The main thing is to monitor yourself, and if you feel that you are in a mixed state, and the emotions are escalating, go to the ER.
It take up to 6 months for a medication to really reach it's potential in a person.
There isn't a magical pill combination for people who have been diagnosis with bi-polar disorder.
You also didn't mention a mood stabilizer.
Also, be honest with your inner support system (your family) they can help monitor your moods.
Check out the following website. www.dbsalliance.org It's for people and their families who've been diagnosis with depression and bi polar.
Good luck.

wow. im fifteen and bipolar too so i can help you here. obviously you know that medications affect everybody differently. but my experiences with this: i have been on many meds for at least two months apiece. first i tried zoloft. it made me act very OCD-ish. it just made me anxious and even more moody. then i tried Prozac. it made me depressed and i went off it because i gained 23 lbs. im not shallow but i also didnt like the depression part. then i tried wellbutrin. it helped a lot with controlling my moods. but for the first few weeks on it, i was kind of anti-social. i just wasnt in the mood to talk. idk why, i wasn't depressed or anything, but i just didn't talk as much as i usually do. but eventually, that wore off and i was back to normal, and my outbreaks were under control. right now, however, i am not on any medicine. my psycho-person isnt happy about that, but i like myself much better without the meds. now the thing that helps me is the people around me. my friends and family. my dad is also bipolar so he understands, and i told my best friend and she has been a HUGE help. i try to keep track of my moods and predict the next "down" period. mainly, if you cant go without meds, then try welbutrin. good luck!!

well all i can say is that i am bipolar if thats what they call it and im medication free. I believe i am overly emotional b/c that is just how god made me. You have to look down within your self b/c you are mad at something that has happened to you. no pill can help ive tried them all, or the ones that have been out for a couple years. you are a human being and if you feel a certain way, even if its exstreme you are feeling it for a reason. Find out who you are and why you are mad at the world or sad b/c of it.
