Is an understanding of a thought ....?!

Question: always a result of introspection or a thought within ones mind OR does it sometimes require an externalization of the thought to be realized? For example, I recently realized/understood something that I have known, but did not understand it until I externalized it here at Y!A. The feedback did not induce the revelation, but I believe that I realized what I needed to as a result of externalization. Maybe my mind was not prepared to accept it until I was willing to speak it.

New to this type of forum, I don't know when you asked your question, but I found it very interesting. Your expressions seem highly intelligent and very introspective; perhaps you are also highly educated. Nevertheless, still wanting to reflect my humble opinion in response, I'd say that externalization amounts to objectification the thought, 'putting it out there' so to speak, so that some alternate perspective may occur, that in turn may bring new insight to add to the subjective analysis that occurs with introspection. That you are open to all of that seems to me a wonderful thing, constituting yet another proof of a benevolent force in the universe. Perhaps your revelation could be described as the product of the energetic momentum involved in your effort to be open, and to strike this balance between subjective and objective. Into the bargain, the effect might also be to lighten both the thought and the process of analysis, in the same way that the old proverbs indicate - i.e. "a burden shared is a burden halved", and also "nothing's as good as when it's shared".
I believe that all our events, including our thoughts, need such witness and support as externalization opens us to, because our existential state demands feedback..
Does that make any sense to you?
Please respond within this forum, as I'm interested in your further thoughts on this, and will watch for your identifier.
Namaste!

You can "externalize" a thought within your own brain. Just create a space in your brain, then actively put the thought there and stand back and look at it. Same effect as Y!A

It's both. I believe it requires introspection as well some externalization. The internal process just provides the mixing pot for all that we perceive. Our thoughts are processed through our subconscious mind. Ever had the answer to a question just niggling at the back of your mind? Or the answer is on the tip of your tongue? There is no way our conscious mind can retain all the information we take in. What is not currently needed is filed into the subconscious part. Here, information is assembled into a sense of order. When we have a problem that we face, a question that needs answering, our subconscious is busy trying to assemble the information. As soon as it develops an answer, it is then brought to the forefront of our mind then. This is why we get the feeling that we knew it all along.
