Can a therapist really help me?!

Question: Do you really think therapy will help anxiety and panic attacks or would it be a waste?

Yes, therapy really can help. However, you do need to be sure to get a therapist who is properly trained, qualified and registered. Someone who has done a couple of years of a basic counselling course isn't likely to be adequate for your needs. But of course, therapy won't be able to help you unless you feel ready to engage in therapy - it IS hard work and quite challenging. However, if you do feel at a point where you're willing to do that, it could make a huge difference to you.

EDIT: DreamGrl's post below reminds me that I really need to point out that therapy is NOT like medication - it's not going to give you instant results (actually, even most medication requires a week or two before you feel the results). It will take a couple of months - that's the hard bit - before you begin to even 'get' how it's going to help. But it will, it really will.

yeah, i guess ya gotta c shrinks

they probably will. im suffering from the same thing and im going to go see one soon. i think you should try it. good luck:)

Im going thru the same thing, hun. I just started seeing a therapist and it helps a little but I am seriously considering going back on Prozac which worked miracles for me in the past. Talk to your Dr. and see what he/she thinks is the best way to go about your anxiety treatment.

It could, however you will need to make the commitment to get better.
