Do bisexual people tend to stay that way or go on to become gay over time?!

Question: It is a common misconception that people who are bisexual will eventually "become" or find out that they are homosexual. I believe this misconception largely developed because many people who are gay first label themselves as bisexual as they are "coming out" because part of them feels they may still somehow have an attraction to the opposite sex as is expected by societal norms, but they also know that they are attracted to the same sex. Eventually, they come to terms with their sexuality and identify as homosexual, leaving that bisexual label as just a transitional phase in their life.

However, many people simply are bisexual. If it is possible to be attracted to the opposite gender and it is possible to be attracted to the same gender, why can't someone be attracted to both? Just because you have sex with the same sex and enjoy it, it doesn't mean you're gay and that's the end of the story; if you also have sex with the opposite sex and enjoy it, you're obviously not homosexual.

I've identified as bisexual for years. I like sex with men. I like sex with women. I don't discriminate by gender when looking for a partner. That's about it. I've been in a relationship with a boy for the last three years, and that's fine with me. Regardless of being with women in the past, I'm still very attracted to him. It is definitely possible to truly be bisexual.

It's been 7 years and I've experienced no change in my sexuality, but if I find out 10 years from now that I'm gay I'll be sure to let you know. ;)

When one is bi-sexual they have sex with both sexes. If you enjoy sex with your own sex, you are gay. OK? Simple.

Typically, if a bisexual decides to have a long term relationship or get married, it will be with someone of the opposite sex. They may date people of the same sex, but when they are ready to settle, they will more often than not end up in a heterosexual relationship. So to answer your question, they usually do not go on to become gay, they usually will stay bisexual or go back to being heterosexual.

it really depends on the person.

If you are sexually attracted to both sexes you are bi. Having a LTR doesn't change anything any more than it does for a hetero or gay.

There is an LGBT section, btw. This isn't a mental health question.

sexuality is based on who your attracted to not who you have sex with, if you are attracted to both sexes you are bisexual.

I agree with kim ,it depends on the person, and that person may stay with someone of their sex, or opposite sex that dosn't mean the other sex dosn't turn them on :S, it depends on who the person you fall for amd marry is, its how much you like them not their sex that determines weather they'll stay together :S!!

being bi is just a pitstop on the road to becoming gay

i think that once you lead a bisexual lifestyle, even if you decide to be straight or gay, you will still have bisexual tendancies for a long time.

i think for most people Biville is just a stop on the way to Gayville.

it is easier to think that maybe you are "normal" and one day will have the wedding that your parents always dreamed of. then you realize that you are just fooling yourself-find real love-and get over it.

If a person is bisexual then a person is bisexual. They may prefer the opposite sex to the same sex or vice versa, or they may be attracted equally to both, but they never "become completely straight" or "become completely gay". They may spend 50 years in a monogamous relationship with a person but the aforementioned relationship doesn't change their sexuality. It just means they were in love and they were faithful.

Many people mistakenly view bisexuality as some sort of "transitional" state of being, a kind of "orientation limbo". It's not. It's a legitimate sexuality all on it's own. Again, preferring one sex over the other or "settling down" does NOT invalidate the bisexuality of a person. And again, there are most certainly varying degrees of bisexuality. Just take a look at the Kinsey scale; every number from 1 though 5 is a form of bisexuality.

I don't believe true bisexuality exists at all. Bisexuals are actually gay, and confused. Once you have sex with the same sex, you are gay no two ways about it. I don't believe anyone goes gay over time. You either are or aren't.
