What do u do when you're scared/paranoid?!

Question: I'm 19 years old and i live with my boyfriend, i suffer from depression and i was told i'm bipolar. but since i've been living with my boyfriend i've been really paranoid, he works graveyard shift five nights a week and i'm left alone to sleep. we live with roomates but they have their own room and all. so i sleep alone, anyway...like i was saying...i seem to have a problem sleeping at night because i'm constantly thinking someone is going to break in, even though nobody ever has tried or anything. this causes me not to be able to sleep even though i'm dead tired and when i eventually sleep, it's around 4 a.m. My boyfriend was talking to me about it and told me that i need to get help so i can stop being so paranoid because it's ruining my life. i've tried to stop thinking about someone trying to break in but it's so hard and i get so scared. whenever my roomates are gone all night and i'm completely alone, i freak out. what should i do? what can i do?

Try to find out if there is a mental health clinic in your area. It sounds like you may be bi-polar but there is nothing wrong with that because I am too. Once my psychiatrist got me on the right meds and the right dosage I do just fine. Don't be afraid or ashamed. Your boyfriend sounds like he is there for you which is a big help. You could look for NAMI which is the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. They are a big help. Good Luck.

Try deep breathing exercises to decrease anxiety levels and recite a Mantra or a positive saying in your mind. Rationalize the thoughts that are making you feel scared. Try to focus on something like music or write in a journal your feelings.
