One of those teenage moments, need advice?!

Question: I am a sophomore in highschool, I go to a challenging all boys school and its very "old school". I also am 5'8 yet weight 125 lbs which yes you can imagine, I cant bench more than 35 or run a half mile without dieing, or use barbells above 10..That i'm not looking to improve at the moment. My problem is im shyand stress out over things really bad. I have very bad acne, so I am now on Accutane, 3.5 months into this treatment, my face is not clear and I have BAD JOINT PAIN. I cannot even slowly jog without pain all in my feet/legs/knees etc. So starting on Jan. 3 my past health class, which i had the only A grade in is going to PE class. our coach is the football coach, and the class has the rep. of being very laborious and hard(as was health class). On Jan 4 im going to see the derm again and most likely get dr.s note to get me out of PE. Yet im stressing over what will I do instead of pe and really what is my excuse going to be for when people ask me why im not in class anymore

You don't need to tell anyone other than the school administation about why you cannot participate in PE. However, whether someone knows your on meds for acne should not freak you out. Chances are, if you're on accutane, your acne is fairly obvious. The fact that you are doing something about it should not embarass you. By the end of your first cycle your acne should be markedly improved, but know this: most people go through several rounds (2 or 3) before their acne is completely alleviated. I don't want you to stress about that, but I think you should know what to expect.

In regard to why you're not in PE class - don't sweat it. Just tell your close friends that you are on a medication that causes you some joint difficulties but that when the underlying condition goes away you should be "up and running" along with the rest of them. If someone else questions you that you don't consider a close friend, just say you had a schedule change. Leave it at that. You don't need to give any more information than that. It's your business - not theirs.

PS: I know it feels like you're the only one going through this crud, but you are not alone. Even though I haven't been a teenager for awhile, I remember not even wanting to show my face at school if I had just one prominent pimple! Just know that your worth isn't based on how clear your complexion is and your skin will clear up with time. Keep doing exactly what the doctor ordered and try not to stress - that only makes it worse.

Be blessed and good luck. mattie

u should get ur knee's checked out 1st
gym class is awesome I LOVE PE
maybe to help ur knees and weight try yoga ???

just tell them the truth if they dont like it then screw them you shouldnt care so much if people like you

I was picked on for many years. You have to just ignore them and do things your way, don't let them ruin your life.

You have a genuine medical excuse to not go to gym class, so don't worry about it. I was shy as well, and I too stressed over many things. I still do, but it's a bit easier now.

You have to relax first and foremost. And if people ask you why you're not in class, tell the truth, that you're ill.

First of all acne is normal at your age. Some people will get it later on, and few will be lucky not to have it at all. If you don't want people to know, tell the truth, you have joint pain that makes you unable to run. All the stress you have may be what in contributing to your acne. If P.E. is your first or last class of the day ask your parents if you can go to class late or get out early and tell them why. Make sure you talk to the doctor about the joint pain, he may want to put you on something else.

First realize that the world extends beyond those few ignorant people that have nothing better to do than pick on you. I am in the derm business and I can't tell you how many people are on accutane and have acne problems!! It's extremely common. You put too much emphasis on strangers opinion's that don't matter. Start by eating healthy, no junk, more protein to build muscle that will help you get stronger. It might help clear up acne too. Next, focus on you, not them. If you need to be excused from phys ed permanently, so be it. Anyone asks, say you are in physiotherapy from an old sports accident and can't attend class.
