How do you make yourself less self obsessed?!

Question: If I don't think I look good I don't go out, and I'm constantly looking in mirrors and stuff

I wish I wasn't like this- people go on about it all the time but I can't help it.

I want a cure that doesn't make me uglier?
Thankssx

You've got the same problem as me. I'm exactly the same. I'm not vain, I just worry if I don't look good. So the best advice I would give you, is to just get on with life and not to worry. So what if you have to wear lots of make up? I do too! It's fine, hun, just make yourself look absolutely stunning before you leave so that you won't have to adjust anything once you're out. When you're out with mates, be yourself but a little more confident. Also, I think that most of the problem is mentally inflicted. Basically it's all in our head. We actually look fine, we just get a bit paranoid.
In conclusion, worry less about your looks and reveal your brilliant personality!! Let yourself shine from the inside (god I sound so cheesy, sorry)! Good luck! I hope I helped!
xx

Wear lots of make up.

Stop buying magazines, watching glamor shows, become friends with some "plain" people

Have you any friends? Are any of them having problems at the moment? Maybe you could help them with their problems and that will have the side effect of you thinking of others rather than yourself all the time.
There is ALWAYS someone worse off than you, find them, help them and you will feel better than now!

awww.... wear makeup

Cover up all the mirrors in your home and limit yourself to just looking at them once per day.

Stay away from fashion magazines and tabloids and go watch a philosophical movie or read a book about something deep------perhaps that will change your perspective on life and you'll care more about larger issues and less about the way you look.

To be less self-obsessed, you need to step out of your own mind and life sometimes. Volunteer somewhere - feed homeless people, read to kids, animal shelter, nursing home, habitat for humanity, etc - anywhere - it broadens your mind and takes you out of your own narrow little life.

it doesnt matter that you like to look good i think its a good thing you should take care of your self and present your self nicley but as long as its for you if your doing it for other people then you should try to stop caring what they think.

you mean you do not want to be vain...

I am kind of like this too.. hmmm.. try and focus on what is really important like what is on the inside... don't spend so much time worrying about how you look,.. worry more about what makes you YOU and go from there... there is always going to be someone prettier.. you may as well just accept it and have fun!

Put a sack over your head is the answer everyone is thinking but wont say.... So I will say..............
Check out the state of your mind and see if you are really mental, once that has been cleared up and assuming you are ok, stop thinking that you are wonderful or you will end up like the film Shallow Hal (but in reverse)

It sounds as if self-esteem is the issue here. Perhaps having a pet to look after - a dog or cat for instance - would be a good idea. It would give you something to focus attention on plus they can offer affection regardless of how you look. I don't have one myself but my parents do and I know how much enjoyment they get from the affection it gives them. The links below add some weight to my suggestion. All the best for the new year - I hope things improve for you.
