The affects of the adjustment/increase will not be a surprise. It will likely help a little more with depression and coping with stress during this difficult time for you. Sometimes Effexor can cause stomach upset if you go up on it too fast and the dose is sometimes titrated. There are other possible side effects but that does not mean that they will happen. I am sure that your doctor knows what he or she is doing. If you experience any uncomfortable side effects let him/her know. Sometimes side effects can manifest when medication is adjusted/increased but diminish after your body has had sufficient time to adjust (somtimes a few days to a week). I doubt that you will have any problems though seeing as you have apparently been doing fine on the 75mg. Otherwise try to keep busy and stay active with friends=0)

Since you have been on 75 mg for 2 years, you may only have great results. Good Luck. If you feel strange with the higher dose, then just gradually go up to 150mg.

in short , for your mood to improve

well effexor didnt do me any good at all when they tried me on it
i ended up on prosac for 2 years until i built up a resistance to it
im now on cymbalta
i feel for ya on your grandma :-( i hope everything gets better for you.. i lost mine in 98 then lost my dad in 04
its a rough road ahead
but you can make it

Hi, and happy new year if your on the east coast. Not yet for me. 1h, 42m to go
Anyway, i have been on effexor xr, 150 mg for about 5 years or so. and one thing that i can tell you is that hopefully you'll start to feel better, if the 75mg wasn't doing it for you. Also you may get more dry mouth, but just keep some gum around in case you do. Take care

I was dosed quite high on Effexor for a period of time. With support and someone to talk to and monitor it, can be okay. I felt a little sick for a short period of time when my doses were changed so please be careful. Other than that it was not hard at all, kept me calm and slowed things down made the thought process a lot clearer. Do you find the Effexor is working for you? I was labelled as having a mental issue and therefore acted that way. Lifes little travels throw us off course all the time, try not to be dependent on the medication and remember you Grandma is still around and always will be. Good luck, have faith and be mindful of your medication, it can make the world of difference, but so can you for yourself. I really wish you the best.

my doctor done the same to me a little over a year ago and it depends if you are taking it all at the same time or splitting it in doses. you will probably be a little more tired for a while , but it will help you . since you are already taking it , you should get the benefits almost immediately , instead of the norm of a month or so . write me back if you have any other questions .JIM

Hi darlin - I am currently on the same dose - for me it is great - very effective - my depression was after I had my son - I had ect (nothing else help) and no take effexor as a maintainance. Dont freak alot of us out here have had ect and for me it was a miricale. My problem with your question is - "simply increasing your dose will NOT help you." GP's have a very limited knowledge of depression. Go to a psychatrist - they are more aware and intune. Do it now before things progress. Medication alone is not the answer. If your family is not supportive - dont tell them. If cash is short you can get it free on a pension. Simply go to your GP and say "I would like to be free of antidepressants and feel a referal to a psychatrist would help me" If they refuse (which they want because you can sure them) go to another. Good luck darlin.

I had no problems with it unlike the other meds. I only took it for about a year, but my husband said he noticed that I tended to cry alot more than usual, but hey my homicidal thoughts about him went away as well as the baby blues! All in All you shouldn't have any problems.

It'll be the better part of a month before you notice anything. You may notice some difficulty sleeping, changes in eating habits (more or less) and you may be jumpy and/or fidgety. If at anytime, you feel an onset or increase in the desire to harm yourself or to end your life, call your doctor IMMEDIATELY!
Eat 6 small, healthy meals each day for proper nutrition and weight maintenance and go to bed at the same time each night for optimal sleep. If you find that you are having trouble, talk to the doctor.
Good Luck
