How do I get my mom to help me?!

Question: I am away for college and when I visit my mom for holidays I try to tell her that I am very depressed and need help. I screamed it today and I tell her all the time that I want to kill myself. I think she may be in denial or something because she always walks away or changes the subject or just calls me crazy. She is really skinny and I have an athletic build because I was a gymnast and a cheerleader and she always tells me to lose weight so I turned to not eating and throwing up. She always makes a comment when I eat but I just tell her that I am going to throw it up and she doesn't even acknowledge it. I don't know what to do. I know I need help and I have flat out told her but she won't help me!!

You are obviously a bright person, and if you can't get your Mom to see that you need help, then you need to turn to someone else in the family who will listen. Where is your Dad, Grandparents, Aunts/Uncles? Do you have siblings or close cousins?
You know you have a problem. Go to the nearest Mental Health facility and talk to a professional. Since you've admitted you want to kill yourself, you need to get off this computer and get your butt over there immediately.
Hopefully once your Mom sees that you are are advocating for yourself she will step up and be there for you. But if she continues to criticize you then distance is what you need from her right now until you get some coping skills in place on how to deal with her.
Good Luck

Maybe at this time, your mom is unwilling or unable to help you, but that does not mean there is nothing you can do. Go to the counseling center in college.

Good luck!

Talk to somebody else!
Do you have a Father? Aunt? Uncle? Grandparents?

If not, call 911 for the number of the local mental heath crises center.

Tell them you need help and if necessary, sign yourself into an inpatient program.

Obviously your mom has no clue how to help you. Don't assume she wouldn't want to if she knew how. Your mom has her own problems which prevent her from dealing constructively with yours. You need to see a professional.
