This is really annoying me?!

Question: i have ocd in worrying, and i check things over and over again, for example, going down stairs in the middle of the night to check everything is off, and when turning the tap off i would put my hand under it 5 times to make sure it is off. but now i get worryed over other things as well.
for example. say someone in school broke something, i would start worrying that someone would think it is me, even though i would be able to prove it wasnt, i would still worry and keep thinking of a story i could say even though my true story would be good enough.
i have had my ocd for nealry 2 years.
do you think i need to seek professional help?
thanks

Yes go and see your GP I have suffered with it myself I was on medication for a year and have not looked back - don't live with this taking over your life it can be treated. Good Luck

Yes, you need to seek professional help...

thats sounds alot like me...
i think it might be a normal ocd,
the tap thing sounds slightly alarming

but atleast your cautious

thats what doctors are for.

Yes you need help. The treatment is fairly simple and is very effective.

Yeah, OCD is frustrating.
There are certain therapies they have for it. They are supposed to raise your stress level by making you not do the compulsions, and afterwards you are supposed to realize that the compulsions do not affect the obsession at all.

without doubt i cant understand why you have left it this long

i would say so as it sounds like you are getting worse not better! i care for people with ocds alot worse than your case tho x

YES!! See a doctor. You can be treated for that.

That is definitely OCD.

You can see someone about it and even get it to stop!

Hope this helps!

Hello,

(ANS) What would happen to you if you stopped worrying? Have you ever had the experience of being free from worrying? What purpose does constantly worrying have for you?

**From what you have described here in your posting, YES! I think your OCD is serious enough to require professional help.

**Most people have what I term ordinary neurosis, I recognize my own neurosis such as worrying about did I lock the front door when I went out. But this type of neurotic short term worrying doesn't take up much of my emotional time or energy. I think you do have more than just a simple ordinary neurosis because its now taking up so much of your mental energy & emotional energy.

**OCD becomes a habit or pattern, like a broken record. You need help to brake out of your mental emotional patterns of worrying.

**I think you may find that the world carries on turning & the sun comes up over the horizon and the mail gets delivered if you were to stop worrying?

**The more energy both mentally (with your mind) & emotionally you give to your OCD the worse it will get !! But I would suggest the opposite is also true, that the less and less energy or attention you give to your worrying then the less you will worry!! I know this might sound abit strange because its a paradox and doesn't seem to make any sense but trust me this is true!!

Kind Regards & happy 2008 from Ivan

hi hun.......well.....from reading your question i think that you benifit from seeing a doctor, however i can understand ur reluctence to going as know one want to be labled with a mental disorder. But its gone on for quite a while now and hasnt gone away by its self and i doubt you will want another xmas feeling like this.

OCD is a very common thing and liem the other readers said, with extra help can be treated, the hard part will be making the first move and seeing the doctor, after that you can get suport from your doctor and possible addresses/organisation with people who are experiencing your struggle.

i hope everything works out.....just take one day at a time....

xx

yes u need profession help sooner the better i suppose
