Yes you have OCD. I had bad OCD and this really sounds the same.

You need to seek help as OCD nearly always gets worse if not treated.

Please have a look at this book: Brain Lock by Jeffrey M Schwartz. It honestly gave me my life back. Look at this website for more info on OCD and the book: http://www.ocduk.org/

You need to get this sorted. I wish you all the strength and luck in the world x

PS I was also under the care of my doctor who referred me to a psychiatrist. He prescribed a mild antidepressant (sertraline), which I still take. I started to use the book while I was waiting for CBT. I worked really hard at it and by the time the CBT came round I had all but cured myself using the method in the book, and the psychiatrist signed me off. It was hard, but we all have hard stuff in our lives and this was mine

You could have hun, what i suggest is seeing your doctor or a thearpist? or a self help book on the subject, you could find some on amazon

i'm no doctor. try webmd. hope that helps. best of luck aj

You may indeed. Go see your doctor and have him/her refer you to another doctor who can help you with this.

Sounds like OCD to me. OCD is caused by an underlying anxiety. So is there something else in your life right now that is making you anxious or stressed? I have OCD and it tends to flare up whenever I get overly stressed or anxious about something. See a Dr, preferably a psychiatrist, and tell em all your symptoms, don't worry, you won't be locked away, there are some good medications that can help you! :-) Take care!

There is very little you can do yourself, medications don't work the only thing they do is act as a placebo.(make you think they work). The only real thing that you can do is meet with a therapist to fix the issue. Most of the time the therapist can't do anything. I did a report on OCD plus I also suffer from OCD.

Most likely Kate, I have Bi-Polar, and suffer with acute OCD many of the things I do are very similar tou yours, especially with the counting. Mine is different in that nothing can be in 3, 5 or 10 everything has to be more or less than these, and not ending in 0, 3 or 5 so not 43 for example. It is nuts, and I am on the latest pills for it which help, but only slightly. Seek medical help asap, to begin treatment.

Hi--There's a difference between being a perfectionist and having obsessive-compulsive disorder. Perhaps you keep the floors in your house so clean that you could eat off them. Or you like your knickknacks arranged just so. That doesn't necessarily mean that you have obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In OCD, your quality of life can decrease dramatically as the condition dictates most of your days and you become consumed with carrying out compulsive behaviors and rituals. Most adults can recognize that their obsessions and compulsions don't make sense. Children, however, may not understand what's wrong. But the lives of both children and adults can be severely affected by OCD. Children may find it difficult to attend school, and adults may find it difficult to work. Relationships also suffer.

If your obsessions and compulsions are affecting your life, talk to your health care professional, such as your primary care doctor or mental health professional. It's common for people with OCD to be ashamed and embarrassed about the condition. But even if your rituals are deeply ingrained, treatment can help.
