Has anyone ever beaten severe depression with anxiety without meds???!

Question: Yes. You won't find these people in the medical literature, and psychiatrists don't often suggest that patients treat severe depression in their own non-medical way. But there is a possibility that you can heal yourself.

You need to maintain a healthy diet, you need an excellent exercise regimen, you need to talk to your friends and family as needed, and you need the boost in self-esteem that is the side benefit of working and/or volunteering. Most importantly, you need to find and maintain a positive attitude. Anxiety and depression cannot co-exist in the presence of a positive attitude about yourself and the life you are leading. It doesn't happen magically. It happens because you develop the strength and self-discipline to impose your will and make yourself focus positively on all things until it becomes second nature.

It may sound trite, but the truth is that you can do whatever you want to do. You know first-hand how powerful your mind is because you know how it can force you to doubt yourself, exaggerate negative emotions until you feel paralyzed, and then feel hoplessly horrible about your life and your future. But just imagine how good your life can be if you can impose your willpower on your mind and force yourself to view everything positively and beautifully and wondrously.

Don't throw away the meds just yet. You might need them in a pinch. But I don't doubt that you can turn your life around with a comprehensive plan and a strong committment to making it a reality all on your own.

Good luck.

Strenuous physical exercise works every time.

sure, just get over it!

Yes. The Battered Women's Shelter was a godsend, drug-free.

Yes. It takes time and a lot of determination to overcome it. It can be done.

Yeah. I joined my high school football team. That boosted my self confidence.

I did.. was in it 2-1/2 years.. lots and lots of meditation and prayer. I wasn't going to take meds I would end up being dependent on them for the rest of my life.
Excercise is good for reinforcement.. it builds up the endorphines and makes you happy!!

nope.... still battling the depression and anxiety with medications, but then agian I also have bipolar and borderline personality disorder. and my depression has been so severe that I am on disability for it.... so to those who have beaten it with out medications - congraduations..... For me and many others we are in need to anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds to manage our lifes.

Try exercising for about 1 hour each day. It works better than the drugs and you will lose weight and tone up.

there's a natural treatment (using accupressure) with no meds you can explore. it treats for allergies but also emotional disorders. see naet.com

you can look for a practitioner near you (they are worldwide)

Yes, but first you need to figure out why you're depressed. Work on dealing with your underlying issues. Getting over depression is difficult, with or without medicine, but with enough determination, it can be done.

kind of... I was on medication for awhile. It was for panic and depression. I was in my late teens early twenties at the time and had lost my insurance so the pills were costing me an arm and a leg that and they were not really helping all that much. I stopped taking the pills and it was really rough there for a couple months.. Finally I figured out happiness is just a mindset as is sadness. I now choose to be happy! when ever I feel like I am going to get depressed I laugh it off!! when ever I felt like a panic attack (which I don't get anymore!) I'd go for a walk! that said... that's what worked for me. some people have a chemical imbalance and for those people a-lot of times meds are needed... you really should talk to a psychiatrist (but make sure u find the right psych for u!)

Well, for severe depression meds are usually the most effective option. For mild to moderate depression, talk therapy - in particular cognitive behavioral therapy - has often been quite effective.

Cognitive behavioral therapy involves considering your thought processes and reframing the way you look at things, then gradually exposing yourself to the things you fear (slowly) until they no longer provoke the same fearful response.

I hope that this answer can help you. For one I would like let you know tat I understand you. I was about 16 years old when the Doctors told me that I was internally depressed and was also scitso. The first thing that I thought about when they gave me all these test is that I could not go on so I stop trying to acheive anything in life. I had read many different books and talked with different phyco-doc and nothing didn't help. They ask me this one question. If I had a gun would I shoot everyone that crossed me or hurt me and I said yes; for at that time in my life I may have, but looking back I couldn't have for it was my emotioms talking and not my heart. No one really knows whats in their hearts, minds and emotioms are 3 different things and all work in their own maner. They had given me prozac( paraphrased ), tried to lock me up in jail and they called me a murdera. My family shut me out and said that I was going to be another lost call. No mater what they said and tried to do, I did not use them what I did was prayed i know that people say that well that just another religus thing but it not. We all have beliefs in what we can't see and know and thought to be made up. There are some people that believe in Santa Clause and Estar bunny LOL(laughing out loud) ;but we all have our onw beliefs to help us through some crazy situations. I sugguest that you try praying and ask God to heal you mind of all things that are not of him. Ask him to bring his peace to your mind and to our heart.
Also ask him to forgive you for the things that people and yourself did in the past, because past hurt can have you bound in your heart and mind. Then forgive yourself and them and God will forgive you and free your mind. You must believe that this can be and it will. If you want more info you can answer me back.

By the way I am 30 this year, happly married for almost 10 years now with 7 wonderful children and I am well and free in my mind and heart. I came out without meds and donig fine. You must come out so that you can have this to say in years to come is; I'm out and you will be able to tell someone else your story about how you came out.
