Can 24 .5mg of risperdal kill a 155lb man?!

Question: I know someone who took 24 pills that were .5mg of risperdal. Should that have killed him? He had a lot of side effects but three days later he is still with us and seems fine.

There have been overdoses of Risperdal ranging from 20-360mg with no fatalities. The man you are speaking of took 12mg. What he, and other people who have overdosed on the drug are facing, are exaggerated side effects of the drug such as drowsiness, hypotension, etc.

In the future, though, Risperdal can sometimes act as an antiemetic in some people, keeping them from vomiting the drug in an overdose. A very bad overdose can cause a seizure. Even though this overdose in particular was not bad enough to kill him, if it was indeed intentional, keep a close eye on him. You may want to contact his psychiatrist if you haven't already.

My psychiatrist had prescribed me to take an 8mg dosage of Risperdal everyday and I only weighed 110lbs at that time.
The dosage of 12mgs of Risperdal will probably be out of his body in a few weeks at the most.
