I have big mood swings, and when I feel down, I just feel awful, hopeless, and a!

Question: My first impulse would just be, you know, get over it. Lol, but it isn't really like that. It's pretty bad. Sometimes I'm really really happy for no real reason, and sometimes I just feel so incredibly despondent. I have thought seriously about taking my own life, and I'm really afraid that some day I will. My friends just brush me off whenever I try to talk about it. I feel incredibly... alone. I feel like I'm just fundamentally flawed, in a way that would make me completely unlikable to everyone I meet. Please help me.. even just someone to talk to would make me feel so much better.

I am bipolar and that is what you have described or at least sounds like that. It used to be called manic depression but it's a physical chemical imbalance in the brain that causes severe depression, with suicidal thoughts and extreme highs where you are happy, have fun and also are prone to spend excessively. What you need to do is make an appointment with a therapist at a mental health or counciling facility and find out if what I suspect is true. While bipolar cannot be cured it can be successfully treated and managed to where your moods even out and are more balanced and "episodes" are not as extreme or lengthly. I take 60 mg of Cymbalta which also helps with the physical pain I have from fibromyalgia and arthritis and 150 mg of Trazodone which also helps with depression and sleep as well. Since I have been taking this combination I am much more normal, think a whole lot less of suicide and have blessed relief from extreme episodes of both depression and mania and for shorter durations, but it is vital that you find out what is best for you...there is no shame in seeing a phychiatrist it is just another doctor and there is no shame in having a physical imbalance that creates mental troubles...the shame is in allowing it to go untreated and suffering horribly. Untreated it can lead to suicide. I tried twice myself, and thank God I got the help I needed. If you want a friend to talk to that has been through and still goes through some of what you do, please feel free to email me or message me. Just click on my profile and send me an email. God bless you...I will pray that you will seek and find the help that you need.

Go to a doctor and talk about bipolar.

There are great medications for bipolar that changed the life of a man I know.

Sounds like you are bi-polar. See a Dr and ask for meds to correct your imbalance. Now,..do it!

Don't get so down on yourself, first of all! Go to a doctor, it may be clinical depression.

Talking to someone would help mate, go to your drs he can put you in touch with someone who will listen to you, or email me, ill listen.

evening primrose oil and vitamin b6 daily if you dont wanna go on anti depressants.... seek advice from gp you may need a councillor.. sounds like depression or seasonal affective disorder... get new mates if they wont listen too.

Go see a doctor right now. You may have a physical problem which can be treated. You may also have bi-polar disorder which needs to be diagnosed immediately. It is more severe, but can be treated successfully. Call your doctor NOW.

Go see someone...a doctor that can prescribe antidepressants or whatever it is you need!!! There is nothing wrong with them...just an inbalance.I couldn't live without mine! Good Luck!

I used to have mood swings like that. I saw a therapist for a while, she really helped me realize why I was feeling the way I was. I eventually did start taking medication for it, but I have been off of it for a long while now. My suggestion would be to see a therapist and talk to them about your feelings, from there they can decide if you need an anti-depresent or something else.

Hope things work out for you.

The first thing you need to do is go to the Dr. My wife went through this a couple years ago. When she went to the Dr., they started her on some anti-depression meds that made a world of difference. The Dr. may want you to see a psychiatrist, so just do it. You do want to get better or you wouldn't have asked for help. Just make the appt and have a family member of your best friend take you so they understand how serious this can be. Good luck....

Try some Cell Food by Lumina and Bio Strath. The Bio Strath has a unique flavor that requires getting used to. You can usually find them health food or vitamin stores. They may give you the nutrients you need to help your mood and increase your energy somewhat.

Sounds like teenager hormones. Just try to find something that you enjoy, and that gives you confidence. Don't worry, time will pass and you'll feel better. Thinking emotionally can lead to some bad choices, it sounds like a chemical imbalance. I'm sure if you allow others in, and you try not to think about negative thoughts, your life will brighten up in time. Eventually, we all feel moody, we all have a crummy moments, but time always heals. I doubt you are unlikeable, I think you are just paranoid, there will be someone, trust me. Cheer up!

It sounds like you may suffer from Bi polar,or maybe depression. I would suggest counseling, and maybe meds would help. Take a look at the link below! And you'll be fine hun, just keep your head up,find someone you trust to talk to!

Honey you probably have a mild case of depression. My sister is the life of every get together and when she told me she was depressed I was floored. Her doctor gave her a mild medication and she's fine. Please don't ever consider suicide. That is NEVER an answer. My dad did that when I was a child. Now here it is 46 years later and I've never gotten over it. There is nothing or no one that important that you should ever consider doing that for. I'll be praying for you. Now you go see your doctor so you can start feeling your old self again. I CARE!!!!!!!!

Take these symtons to a doctor! I know how expensive a doctor is, but you sound so much like me!!!! You "MAY" have bi-polar depression -- nothing to be ashamed of! (first letters in names of ppl & pets here) buns977@yahoo.com will be a friend to you to talk to.
If the first doctor doesn't work right for you, try another, then another......until you are happy again!

it sounds like you should see a doctor you may be bipoler or just depressed but if you have thoughts of killing your self you need to seek help its not your falt it is unbalance of the chemicals in your brain and there are drugs to help with it i have friends that are bipoler and it sounds like them before they got help now he is doing real good the drug just evens you out takes away the big up and then then the big down

You need to seek medical help ASAP!! The fact that you recognize you're imbalanced is a big step, but this is not something you can deal with alone or with only online support from Yahoo friends - as good intending as we are. You would appear to have some type of bi-polar disorder which is very treatable with medication. PLEASE get professional help - you are not broken, just in need of a turn up or repair!!
Best of luck to you, make 2008 your year to get well!!

My thoughts are with you - be strong and know you are not alone!

Nonsense. You are not fundamentally anything except a perfect soul and child of God or the universe or whatever you conceive the vital originating force to be.

You sound like a very nice person who is trying to get a handle on a very difficult problem. Have you been seen by an MD or a counselor and checked for bi-polar disorder? It is relatively common, and is what you are describing. There are medications available to correct this, but they must be prescribed and monitored by a physician or psychologist.

Please make an appointment very soon to see a professional. Your life will improve greatly!

Also, do check out www.emofree.com to learn about Emotional Freedom Technique. It is a stimulation of the body accupressure meridians by tapping and mentally visualizing and vocalizing certain words. You can learn about it at the website, and can download a free ebook and free instructions. There is a ton of info on the website, and I think it could be helpful to you.

To reiterate, though... you must (MUST) see a medical or psychological professional and get diagnosed and onto an appropriate medication. Know also that you may have to try a few different medications before the right one, or combination of medications, are found. Hang in there, and be strong! You can do this! Welcome to the new year!

Best wishes!

Dude I felt the same way, until my wife said to me you need help. We went to my doctor and he put me on some medication called Effexor, the 75mg's were helping but I still felt a nagging feeling after 3 months, so I went on the 150's. Maybe it is not the right thing for you, but you took the first step in admitting that there is something wrong. ;) You may not find the right one right away, but do not give up hope.

Well, first off you may want to be tested for Bipolar disorder. I used to be the same way. I went through manic phases but most the time I was terribly depressed and standoffish.

However, medications can make things worse. Especially if you're young. Antidepressants are not for everyone!

I fixed the problem by finding a wonderful person: my husband who is also my best friend... I know you can't just go out and find someone, but having a good listener makes a world of difference. When you find someone, even just a friend, who treats you the way you deserve to be treated.

The way I met my husband was I finally decided: I am going to be myself and not listen to what others tell me. If people don't like me for who I am, I am not going to conform to meet their expectations.

Learning who you are and find passions in life is what you need to do. Try meditation. It is the best tool for calming yourself and centering your mind. Find a book on meditation and don't think it's stupid. Approach everything with an open mind.

Also, if you find that special friend who will listen, don't just complain all the time. No one wants to be around someone who just feels sorry for themselves. My mother is that person. She is always depressed. She makes her self ill due to her frame of mind. It's all about your mindset!!!

Actually, take this first step: rent The Secret or read the book. The movie may be better to follow. It will change your life if you approach it with an open mind! I received this advice when I was a heroin addict, jobless, and homeless (less than a year ago).

Now I support my husband in our own apartment and I and am the main journalist for a newspaper at the age of 22.

Good luck to you and feel free to contact me with further questions.

Have a wonderful day!!!!!

well.. I'm not sure if you're into reading the bible.. but I used to have the same problems.. I use to feel so alone.. and my moods were completely crazy.. I'd be happy when I was supposed to be sad and so on... so I started going to therapy once a week.. and this guy was a christian therapist.. but a lot of what he told be worked and really helped me feel better about life and myself. He would have me read Psalms 139.. the whole chapter.. it was cool b/c it was like I had worth in someone's eyes. And with that I started to change the way I think.. I'm worthy.. valuable.. loved... needed.. talented... beautiful/handsome... I stated to see things in a entirely new light.. all the old thoughts and feelings were gone b/c I saw that I had value.. good luck.. hope this helps!! es

The mood swings you describe sound like symptoms of Bipolar Disorder (a disorder where people swing from one mood--elation--to the other extreme on the other end of the mood spectrum, severe depression with sometimes suicidal thinking. You must go see a psychiatrist because Bipolar Disorder, left untreated, can destroy your life (poor judgement is involved). And, of course, severe depression leading to suicidal thinking is very serious and only due to depression. You want to feel right in the middle--stable--not swinging from one extreme to the other. Often if these mental health disorders are left untreated, the affected person uses drugs and/or alcohol to self medicate their underlying feelings of depression, etc. and the problems resulting from the moods and/or mood swings.

You can start by calling your local hospital and asking for a referrral to a psychiatrist. You may need one from your primary care physician first. Tell your doctor exactly what you have described here. You really must see a doctor. Otherwise, you will swing back and forth and end up feeling miserable and the mood swings will affect your whole life. Take care.

HI MAT, SOUNDS LIKE YOU MAY HAVE A BIPOLAR DISORDER. IT IS A CONDITION THAT WILL GIVE YOU SYMPTOMS OF GREAT HIGHS, AND EXTREME LOWS IN THE WAY YOU FEEL, AND THINK. IT IS CAUSED BY A CHEMICAL IMBALANCE. YOU NEED TO TELL YOUR PARENTS THAT YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR AND DESCRIBE ALL THE SYMPTOMS YOU INDICATED IN YOUR QUESTION. THE TREATMENT IS SIMPLE AND THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE WILL BE SO MUCH BETTER. GOOD LUCK, I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU. WHY DON'T YOU GOGGLE " BIPOLAR" AND FIND INFORMATION ON SUPPORT GROUPS, AND DOCTORS, AND MUCH MORE. YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS, MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED WITH SAME DISORDER. REMEMBER GOD LOVES YOU, AND IS ALWAYS THERE WITH YOU. IF YOU NEED TO EVER TALK .
