Remember to keep friends who are friendly. I teach 6th grade, and I see groups of "friends" who just treat one another so horribly. If your friends don't treat you well, take a chance on meeting new people- make small talk with other kids near your locker or in the lunchroom, join a club or try-out for a sport that interests you. Make sure you make yourself a priority and don't try to please others too much. What they think doesn't matter in the long run.

(And you probably won't understand this now, but when you are 25, you won't remember very much from your 6th grade year. Focus on your studies and what will make you happy.)

Good luck!

EDIT to SAM ADAMS:
Please don't make judgments about professions you obviously know nothing about. Why become a teacher? Maybe to help inspire a younger generation to do great things. Maybe because we think we have something to learn from our own students. Maybe because we only work 175 days a year. It's not a bad life. Stop hating. There are miserable people in every profession, but I'm not miserable in mine. I live in a beautiful area, have a wonderful, loving husband, and take lots of vacations- and have a great schedule to enjoy the outdoors and maintain optimal fitness. Please don't feel sorry for me. I feel pity for someone who still is in the highest angst and "wo is me" phase of life. Get over it.

Oh honey, your not the only one who had these ups and downs in your sixth grade year. I use to be picked on, and still some people in my sophmore year who still kind of do. I mean they really don't, but all they do is give you bad looks. They need to just get over it, it's their problem for sticking to the past. Just try to avoid the bad situations that happened or happens. I'm sorry. Good luck.

Oh you haven't seen anything yet! Sixth grade is nothing. Not even preparing. Yeah I hated sixth grade. I hated it so much that after awhile I learned to just relax. Instead of feeling stressed or angry at teachers, just look at them and laugh. They have a terrible life probably. Why else would they have such a low paying job? If you haven't started yet, you should begin hating your grade. I did, along with my older siblings. For those who think they're "popular" just ignore them. They are stupid. Yeah sometimes I know it's hard to ignore them... I remember hearing those annoying Californian accented voices of girls in my grade just complaining about all the drama in their lives. Find an easy way to get rid of your stress. I found out that watching movies and taking naps calmed me down. Keep to yourself but don't be anti-social. If you think sixth grade is hard it only gets worse unless you take charge and keep up with school work. It might be different for you, but I think you'll like high school a lot more than middle. In high school, you're not limited to your grade only. Most likely you'll have classes with older people, sometimes for the better or for worse. Like I remember, Freshman year of high school I had Spanish class with a few upperclassmen. However, they were all retards. (Not literally of course). Our class average ended up being a 79 C yearround. But in music class, I had a few upperclassmen who I actually became good friends with. You just have to learn to reach out to people outside of your grade more. Yet, don't become too attached to a grade ahead of yours because when they graduate, there's not much you have left. But that's all high school. Still, there are 7th and 8th graders but they are probably all idiots so I wouldn't worry just yet. I guess you just need to hold on and push through the rest of the year, you can do it.

Oh I had tons, your a normal sixth-grader, I remember once I didn't get this perverted joke, and my close friend told the guy who said the joke, and he told me in front of the whole class, it was soooo embarrassing, but I had so much fun with my friends at school, I guess in the end it was worthwhile.

all i remember about sixth grade is that i didnt talk and i cut myself. most awkward year of my life.
